Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Just bought a Bareknuckle on ebay. What do you think?

Little worried that this frame is gonna be a bit large for me. I'm 6' 2''.

How do you use a headset twice? Two 360 degree rotations?

Well, it has almost a 23.5" top tube and a 35" stand over.

Haha, nice! The seller probably wanted to say, "Only been installed twice."... Or maybe the bike has only made two 90 degree turns....Its a mystery!

I'm sure the seller means the headset was instead on two different bikes. At any rate, buy first, ask questions second?

I would say that the seller is probably overjoyed that someone bought his heavily used frame for over $300.

Up for bid is a used 62cm EAI Bare Knuckle Boxer Frame with a brand new Chris King Headset. The frame has stickers on it and a little bit of surface rust but other than that is in great condition. The fork does have a dent in it, but nothing to gnarly. This is a great frame and I'm sad to part with it but I don't really have any use for it anymore and it's just collecting dust. The headset has only been used twice, and is kind of a unique color. Not quite Mango but also not Gold. All sales final, no returns.

I wouldn't have paid $380 ($335 + $45 shipping) for that frame. Dented fork, scratched frame with surface rust. Stickered to death. How the hell is the headset "brand new" if it's been installed twice? "Great condition", my ass.


Does it fit you? Absolutely not.

You say that you are 6'2" and I'm assuming of normal proportions. If so, then you should ride a 58 or 59cm bike. 60cm tops.

I totally have to agree with carleton... you bought a lemon. And the price is just ridiculous for the condition; I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it....

Depending on the size of the fork dent and the amount of rust, you could probably clean up the frame and resell it for what you paid or more. Bareknuckles tend to sell for a lot more than they are really worth.

No they don't. 62cm is 62 cm. Bareknuckles are measured from c-c, not c-t, which is why you might think they run big, but the TT lengths for BKs are typical (actually a little short compared to many frames).

I'm a bit over 6'1" and ride a 58" Bareknuckle BTW, that 62 is too big for the OP. It might be OK with a short stem and flat bars or northroads.

This got me thinking, my BK has over 10,000 hard miles on it, but still in very good cosmetic condition. Looks like maybe I could sell it and recover enough to buy a new steel frameset, possibly with some cash to spare. I'll probably try and put another 10K on it first.

Hopefully this guy hasn't paid for the frame yet. I normally don't condone not paying, but it'll be better than paying that kind of money for this frame.

Buyers can't receive negative feedback anymore. Worst that could happen is you'll get a non-paying item strike. Which you're allowed about 3.

That frame is a beater and is worth no more than $140-$180 with that headset.

The seller can always sell it to the second highest bidder. It's really not hard to relist an item and recoup any kind of fees. I'd hate to see this guy flush $150-$200 down the crapper.

It is his fault, period. You don't ask for advice after you purchase something. Hopefully this mistake will stick with him and become a learning experience.

I've had probably 6 unpaid payments thusfar on ebay and 0% of the time has the second chance offer been used by the next bidder. You've removed all the impulse bids at that point :)

The unfortunate part of this buy really is the size, but like someone else mentioned he miiiiight be able to make it work

I'd take the buyers strike.

Everyones eyes are bigger then their inseam at some point. It makes no sense to purchase a bike when in impulse and ignorance you made your initial bids. It sucks to leave someone hanging but really even the guys wording is pretty shady. Brand new headset? used twice? a none gnarly dent? **** it.

I'd rather the bike stop at the seller then pass it off to someone else who has to pass it on again because he can't use it. Just my opinion.
