I am participating in my Triathlon and when I was registering for it the from asked if I was a Clydesdale or Athena. I Googled it came up with a mishmash of definitions based on age & weight.
I am 45yo and 196lbs - should I have registered as a Clydesdale? Or is it up to the even to decide?

Dear bubba, As a fellow clyde I did race as a heffer and took 3rd place......200lbs = no chance when some dude with the same fitness is 170lbs.
It only matters if yiu want the bling..... that or lose the weight I am also a 200lb 45 yr old..

I really don't care so much about the bling, I am in it to finish it. LOL And I actually don't want to lose weight, if anything I want to gain. All my weight is "good weight" i.e. muscle, mostly upper body.

well Jonny Bravo......AKA Clyde.....kick arse.....big fellas can ride but running well.....good luck
Clyde = 200, Athena = 175. Of course the event could have its own definition, but if so they should be explicit about it.
If you are really under 200, I'd say no.

for men, 200 is usually though of as the cutoff for clydes so it looks like you're not quite eligible unless the rules for your specific race say different or you want to gain 4 lbs by race day.

Athena=women, clydesdale=men. I am ~205 lbs and have raced in both age group and clydes. I think my best matched competition is in my age group as a lot of clydes are either really big guys or are tall guys in great shape who put in some killer times. My age group (50-55) are more uniformly like me. But it matter not, tri is a race against the clock.
