a friend of mine has this bike

http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?sid=10Rockhopper

are these parts compatible with all specialized mountain bike frames? i just dont want to buy the parts and have fitting issues when it comes to assembly.

are there any other frames that will accept these parts? is it only the fork and bottom bracket i should worry about? and what is a good price to pay for these parts minus the frame? (ill be getting the wheels, front shocks, handlebars, stem, cranks, etc.)

thanks everyone!

Don't put those wheels on a 29er frame unless you want a bunch of petal strike. Also I wonder if specialized uses the same seatpost on all their mountain frames.

bianchi seems to have completely stopped making mountain bikes. If you find a place selling older models do share.

If you are transferring the parts to another specialized frame it should be a straight swap for nearly everything. If you change frame size, you'll have issues with the fork steerer length. If you are transferring the parts to a different manufacture, you might have problems with the seatpost. Specialized uses large diameter posts (30.8mm) which other frames may or may not take.

I've seen very few 73mm bottom brackets on mountain bikes. And Specialized, in particular, uses 68mm...at least it has on the 7 that I've owned since 1990.

ok, he took them off a 19" frame and im looking for a 17" frame to use those parts on. can the fork steerer be chopped to accommodate the 17in frame?
he wants to give me all the stock parts minus the wheels for $200 is that a good deal?

i would be getting the handlebars, stem, grip, tektro disk brakes 160mm front and rear, bb, crank, seatpost, and the shox dart 3 100mm.

Fork steerer, you can cut this down, but you may get away with just using a extra spacer on top of the stem.

For the parts, what condition are they in? if as new, then good, if heavily used, they could be scrap.

Grips, unless lockon, these can be hard to get off the bars without damaging

Seatpost, will this fit?

Stem, will this be long/short enough for you?

For the rest, it's budget gear, but if working sounds like a good deal to start off roading with.

The fork isn't a problem. Yes, you can cut it down or, like jimc101 said, you could just use spacers on it. I'd suggest doing that for a while before you decide where the final cut should be. Don't have 3" or 4" sticking out of the top of the stem but you could do something like this

or even a little more. You can always cut off the excess but you can't put anything back;)

$200 is a very fair deal on the parts. Perhaps even a little low.
