So finally after a lot of searching I got a bike.

I finally chose a Giant Cypress (http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/cypress.st.w/3919/36573/).

I loved the look of the schwinn beach cruiser, but by the time I paid tax and shipping and assembly fee, and then adjustments etc, I'd be looking at about the same price as this bike.

It's soooo comfortable at least it was on the quick trip I took around the block. I wanted to take it further but it's raining cats and dogs here right now.

Oh, and guess what? It really is true that you never forget how to ride a bike. I haven't ridden for 20 years and I just hopped on.. I was a little shaky but nothing a little practice won't cure.

I also had a 100.00 worth of gift certificates from amazon.com so I got a kryptonite lock, helmet, bell, front lamp, rear blinking light, and super cool lights for my tires that change color.

I still need to get a rack for the back but that can wait I'm beyond excited ..seriously.

Get it all setup and post some pics, especially of the tire thing that lights up.

After putting 50-100 miles on this please go back and have them do a tuneup on the bike. When a bike is new the cables and the spokes may need adjustment after riding. This should be a free service.

Yup yup yup! I The shop mechanic told me to go back in about 2-3 weeks of light riding for this adjustment. I can go back as many times as I need to the first year... Other bike shops were offering free tuneups for three or four years but I couldn't afford their bikes!

I got the white.. Another shop had the same model in a BEAUTIFUL light blue but they wanted $330.00 for it and I couldn't talk them down even a dime. The shop I bought it from had white in stock and listed at 309.00 but I got them down to $260.00. I guess the white just wasn't a seller compared to that beautiful blue.... Right now money is tight and I just couldn't bring myself to go over budget to pay $70.00 extra just for color.

And thanks everyone. I really worried that I would buy the "wrong bike" but I really think this one is going to serve me well. Can't wait to get out tomorrow and ride. I'm going to actually WALK MY BIKE 5 blocks over to the greenway because I'm too afraid to ride in traffic until I get a little practice.. It HAS been 20 years after all. I'll return and report!

Looks like a great bike to get back into riding. Have fun on it! Btw, there's no shame in starting within your comfort zone and working up to riding on the streets with traffic. Just build up your confidence at your own pace, then take to the streets when you're ready!

Welcome to the Cypress club! I got a Cypress DX in 2008 that's my daily rider out here in pothole city (county roads haven't been paved since Roosevelt administration).

Now go ride!

Congratulations!! :thumb: It looks like great fun to ride!

Any bike you love is an excellent choice - and it doesn't hurt that Giant makes good bikes too! :)

I think white is both elegant and sporty... and look, with the money you saved you were able to accessorize - which is always fun! :)

I have "monkeylectric" lights on my rear wheel of my commuter - I commute home at night all year round. I have them set at "random" patterns so they are great fun. The only problem is... when I spend too much time looking back at the pretty light pattern and not on the road in front of me! :twitchy:

When I figure out how to "link" video.... oh and use the video portion on my camera, I will post vid of the lights. Actually, it's likely someone has done so on the Commuting sub-forum, already.

Have fun!! :D
