Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Leader 727tr questions..

Anyone used this frame? I currently have an older Kilo. Found a guy on Craigslist with a brand new 727tr for 150. Is this a good deal? Should I just save up for a better steel frame? Any help or opinions would be appreciated.

I have one and yes it is a great deal. No matter how many will tell you here that the 727 is ugly; I personally still get a lot of compliments for it. Getting the headset pressed in for mine at the shop; all the mechanics were all googly eyed at it with obvious puppy love. Nonetheless if you want something out of the ordinary that sticks out of the crowd; the 727 is it; they're rare as well considering leader on made 1 run of them.

if youre into cycling for the looks then go rattle can spray your frame neon yellow. if youre actually into riding fixed for the love of the ride and can really push the frame...stay away from leader. it'll flex (i've owned one). save up for a better steel frame (njs if you can...youll feel the difference).

That's odd...both of my Leaders - 2010 722TS and 2011 725 - are just fine.

OP - definitely save up to spend your money on something NJS and throw a white Aerospoke on it. You'll be the most awesome dude on the internet.

B.S.... I'm pretty sure your cranks will flex before your leader does....

My 727 is as solid as my cinelli vigorelli and pista concept although heavier; hence the steep price differences.

And I'm pretty sure the average rider doesn't stress frame flex much.

That's pure bs. I am a track racer and track sprinter and can definitely put any frame through its paces. I own a Bianchi Pista Concept and a leader 721tr. The Leader is every bit as stiff as the Bianchi, which is very stiff and is a serious racing bike. Futhermore, aluminum frames with oversize tubing are much stiffer than njs steel frames with standard size tubing. And yes, I have ridden some njs framed bikes like a 3 rensho and can tell the difference. As to quality, the welds on the Leader are not finished as nicely as the Bianchi, but they are sound structurally and the frame is true.

Thanks for the opinions, I think I may pick one of these up within the next couple of weeks..I mean for the price why not? Love it! Do you have a cheaper carbon fork you would recommend for the 727tr? Also have you considered painting the machined braking surface on your aerospoke? Would look pretty clean all black.(looks good either way, just curious).

The sidewall seems to bug other people more than me but I managed to find some matte black electrical tape that is the exact same width as the machined surface. I'll most likely tape it.

Use your noggin' that is the 729tr frame(I think) which is commonly used for tricking...so if you put 2 and 2 together the frame most likely cracked from some kind of EXTREMEEEEEE stunt down a staircase or something. A frame doesn't crack like that from normal riding..come on mang.

i know that frame was built for trickin...but that means it should be built sturdy enough to handle EXTREMEEEEEE stunts, right?
yet according to your thinking, the fact that it may have broken doing what it was meant to do, that is somehow ok?
the pic is simply 1 example, you know that if you look there are plenty of leader frame problems of all sorts mentioned all over the interwebz.

Same goes for any bike really. Appreciate the opinion, but not really relevant since I wont be purchasing a bike for tricking.

All trick frames can break. What sets Leader apart is that they have a 100% replacement warranty and excellent customer service.
