Bicycle Mechanics - Crooked left shifter

I have no idea how did it happen.

It was fine on my last ride, but then I left it in the hallway and left for a day. This morning the left shifter is crooked!!!! I have asked the kids, but they will not admit if the bike felt or anyone played with it. (I doubt it)

It seems to me it shifts and brakes ok, but I am afraid to ride it this way.
Please tell me what is wrong and how to fix it?

If you had only one ride on this bike and it was purchased new then it appears to have fallen.

In fact, it was fallen multiple time, but I never had problem with the shifter.
Is there a way how to fix it???

In shimano techdocs, you can look at the parts list to view assembly that may help you

I have never had a need to repair any brake levers, so I'm not sure how it's done or even if it can be done.

OR you could just buy a replacement lever, and put it on.

and while you are at it get a storage rack , to hang the bike up
so It will not fall over while your children, in Play, run by it.

Good idea, :) I normally keep my bike in the garage hooked to the ceiling, but yesterday I was in a hurry to go to work and left it in the room

Shimano is notoriously weak on selling small parts, to rebuilt their stuff ..

the piece is a gimmick display.. there used to be no indicator window on Brifters.
You could just use black plastic tape to hold it on, and call it good..

Lean against the wall type storage racks .. no installation.. ..

I have looked at another shifter and found that a screw was missing at the spot:

So I bought something like it from the hardware store. Now my shifter is back, but if it will be acting up, I probably have to replace the whole shifter. :(

check the floor for the screw where the bike was located. could have come off when someone stomped on it

your kids or the kids in the building? if it was in a public hallway I would suspect and innocent accident with a handbag or grocery bags.

cats have been know to knock a bike over too and keep mum about it.

At that point it did not really matter how did it happen, I was asking more about how to fix it

My own personal kids :)
I could blame only their father for leaving bike in insecure position.

So it was just missing a screw then? The first pic made me think it had been hit, hard. I repaired a Sora lever that looked like that; the steel bracket connecting the lever assembly to the pivot pin was bent. Took some disassembly and was a ***** to straighten due to lack of purchase on the little bracket, but I got it fairly straight in the end.

It was a mostly aesthetic thing, but the brake felt a bit crappy before it was fixed.
