Bicycle Mechanics - Help Suntour XC Pro rear hub rebuild.
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am not the best at working with Hubs, so I have a few questions for those of you who might be in the know!!!!. I have used the greaseguard ports to push new grease in and purge the old, but the hub still feels notchy and it simply does not spin as freely as I think it should. Before I crack it open though it appears to have a set of sealed bearings instead of loose balls under a dust cover. Can you guys confirm this and if so does anyone know where I can get replacements? Thanks

XC Pro used cartridge bearings, look in your phone book for a bearing supply house, and take them a sample of your used bearings. They are a standard size. You'll probably need help pulling the old bearings and pressing in the new ones.

If they are like the front hubs it is not difficult to remove the bearings. The front takes 6001 2RS bearings. The ID number will be on the seal. I would guess that the rear takes a slightly larger ID.
Here's the tool: http://www.biketoolsetc.com/index.cgi?id=399603731101&d=single&c=Tools&sc=Hub-and-Axle&tc=Bearing-Tools&item_id=UB-TA340
You might be able to get them spinning freely if you flush them with solvent and then oil before greasing... or not.
Not a fan of cartridge bearings.
