Bicycle Mechanics - I have a schwinn le tour bike from the 70s or 80s..but i cant put a new saddle on it

Can i get a new clamp to go on the seatpost so i can attach a new saddle to my bike?

or is there a way i can attach the newer rail style saddles to this?

dekdo, I had nearly the same problem with my '80 Raleigh, get another seatpost.

I don't think that's the original saddle. All you need is an older-style seat clamp, like this:

An older, well-equipped bike shop should have a few of these around.

dime a dozen pick one off a trashed kids bike or something. most shops will have them

Jeff, You're right. I remember now that had to get a new seatpost because there wasn't enough room for the two nuts and the narrow saddle I had.

dekdo, Loosen the bolt that holds that clamp onto the seatpost and lift upwards. You'll see how it fits together after that.

Cheap replacement seat with a one-piece molded nylon base. I remember seeing a couple of them back in the '80's.

You would remove the current seat and clamp, install the pictured clamp on top of the seatpost, then install the new seat on the clamp. It would take me about 2 minutes, if I spent a minute getting another cup of coffee.

alright ill see if i can find one of those single rail clamps to fit around my seatpost tomorrow.

went to my local Trek store and they had that clamp.

Thanks to the help posted, i now have a nice new seat.

It's a saddle, not a seat. There is a difference.
