Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. This past Saturday, I did my first 50 mile ride - the Cross Timbers Classic held out of Texas Motor Speedway Ft. Worth, TX. It actually ended up being right at 52miles according to our computers. I completed the ride - with 2 stops - in 3hrs 34mins. Had some cramping in the quads from about miles 43-47, but they went away.
Did anyone else participate in this ride?

Im not in the area but GREAT work!!
I hit my personal best of 40 miles this last weekend too!
Doesn't it feel good to beat personal records?
Congrats, now go for the big "C"!
Congratz. I'm hoping to complete my first half-century probably in the next 2-3 weeks. 42.5 miles is my longest so far...

This.
I'm gonna do the 100K at Hotter N Hell this year. I could probably train hard and complete the 100miles, but, being my first time at HHH, I would like to enjoy it as much as possible.

Job well done! I got calf cramps the first couple of long rides I did. Made a slight cleat adjustment, and make sure I get lots of fluids the first part of the ride. After a couple hours, it's too late and almost impossible to catch back up if you are behind on fluid intake.

Congratulations! I'm training to do the 100k at the Tour de Cure in July starting at TMS (the ride starts with a lap around the oval behind a pace car - I want to see how high up the banking I can ride :) ). I'd then like to do the 100 mile ride at HHH. Of course I've only done a 40 mile ride so far so we'll see how things go. I'm planning on doing a 45 mile ride this weekend.

Good luck on the 100 miles. I will be there - but only doing the 100K.

MrClyde is correct - stay on top of the fluid intake. If you get behind, cramps are inevitable.

I`ve added longer cranks,190mm, and new saddle, new shorts, and my bottom still seems to be the deciding factor on length of rides. I guess it just takes time. Right now a 20 mile ride, rolling hills mostly, is about all I want. Going tomorrow to have lbs to fit bike now that I`ve added new components. Hope this helps with ability to ride longer. Still pretty happy with current distance. Heat is also a pretty big factor. How long did it take for you to accomplish your 50 mile ride, was it solo or group ride?
