Bicycle Mechanics - Old Cassette Cleaning
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have an older 1982 trek that i recently purchased and i have come to notice that the cassette worn/rusted. My question is, how do i go about cleaning this? Any tips? (picture attached below)
If it doesn't skip, and your chain isn't worn, spray it with some lube and run it. If it is an aesthetic thing, spray it and wire brush it.

It doesn't look bad to me at all. If it's not skipping or giving you trouble leave it. It was probably that color brand new, lots of cassettes/freewheels are that gray-brown color.
