Mountain Biking - Opinions on a few suspension forks
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My front fork is a Suntour XCM. It seems to work somewhat ok, but it states it is specifically not for anything other than small bumps. I have some single track/trail stuff in the area with decent sized rocks, roots, small ramps, and several 1-2 foot drop offs. I've been doing this stuff with the Suntour, but I find myself holding back because I don't know if I can trust my fork.
I can get Marz 44 RLO/Manitou Minute/RS Recon Silver Airsolo w/ poploc all for about the same price being in order of decreasing cost. I was wondering if anyone had experience with one or more of the forks, and if there is any big reason to put one in front of the other.
For me the Manitou Minute is ahead right now because of the weight and damping technology. The Marz 44 RLO in second because of the 120-140mm travel. Recon is nice in that it comes with a pump, but I have heard bad things about the TK lockout, and it is heavier than the Manitou. Thanks for any input. :)

given the choice, i'd go with the recon.

Even if the 2011 Recon Silver Solo Air is pretty much the Tora Solo Air from past years? Is the reliability/quality that much better to make up for the lack of features? The Recon Gold is the normal old Recon from what I have read. As I have an altitude change of around ~1500 ft (430 meter) during my round it seems really worth it to upgrade the Recon with MoCo, or get the Recon Gold (has MoCo), both of which are out of my budget. I'll add some links, I left them out because they are in German:

I'm about to pull the trigger on the Manitou Minute Expert unless someone has an idea as to why the Recon Silver TK Solo air would be a better buy. From a technical standpoint the Manitou Minute Expert is on the level of the Recon Gold MoCo Solo Air, but has air assisted coil (which sounds like the best of both worlds to me). Am I missing something from a warranty/customer service/durability/ease of repair standpoint?

I held off on the Manitou because I found a good used site in Germany. However, I realized that my Felt has a crazy long HT (17cm), and it is hard to find a used fork with enough fork shaft left. I found a Sektor RL U-Turn within my budget. I have read a lot of good stuff about it, and I think it will suit my needs for a long time to come. Anyone think that the Sektor is a bad buy?
