Cyclocross - cx disc equipped bikes?

Is there any other bikes equipped with a disc brake other then the bikes direct fantom cross and the rei one?

140mm rotors? Are they out to match the braking performance of off-the-shelf canti setups?

I think it's a smart move. Helps keep the rotating mass down. 160s would be overkill for a race bike in 99% of terrain. The major advantage of larger discs is fade resistance from heat on long descents. 140s will slow you down just fine and if you're overheating them you may want to consider that you might be using the wrong bike for the job.

I would love to build a similar setup (mine wouldn't be half as bling) but I can't justify it.

I've got 4-bikes with Avid mech. disks. I can say disks look cool and they stop great - but damn, they sure do seem to require a lot of constant fiddling. I seem to spend 1/2 my life adjusting the pads and calipers to eliminate rubbing, while getting that perfectly firm brake lever feel. Every time I remove and replace the wheels, I have to take extra care that the axle is cinched up in exactly the same spot, otherwise I'm back to noise and/or a spongy lever. I think the fact that the mech disks only move one pad makes setup especially finicky.

don't like the disc size the OEM picks?, fit something else .
Disc and the ISO mounting adapter, for that other diameter,
is all you need to change..

Yeah, I know...even with cantis. Sometimes you even want that. I do agree that for racing 140mm is fine, since you never want to actually stop anyway. Then again, cantis are fine for racing.

I've got my commuter (2008 Kona Jake) set up with a disc in front and cantis in back. That works very well.

It looks like a cool bike but they say it only has clearance for 30mm tires, WTF? Isn't it supposed to be a cross bike?

That's kind of odd. The do say that it's primarily meant to be an excellent commuter bike. Tires in the photos are 28s. There definitely room in the fork for atleast a 35. Chainstay clearance looks like it might be tight. Hard to say in those photos. Brake bridge definitely has tons of room.

Good catch though. I was oogling that frame earlier. If it had sliding dropouts or an EBB it would be awful tempting to me. I really want a disc singlespeed CX.

For more front tire clearance, choose the Ruben Disc Fork in this section http://www.traitorcycles.com/NotBikes.cfm. No charge for the alternate fork, and I recommend it. The chain stay clearance is over 53mm in the tire area.
