Touring - peugeot project bike.....

I may have an oppourtunity to pick up this older Peugeot frame. I want to build a touring/commute bike. Not going to be done overnight but wanted to get some opinions as to the worthiness of this frame, generally speaking. I haven't looked at it up close to see what the bottom bracket, headtubes and the frame looks like.

Emailed the guy and its on 35 bucks. I know componets and wheels etc will run me some $$ but that ok.

looks cool, but check the inner axis (whatever its called in English, the axis where the pedals/front cassette is hooked up)
some low budget builds have a longer axis in there, or it could be the older 'squared' type so your new high end stuff wouldn't fit
I would ask him to remove the axis for you or do it yourself before buying, it can be impossible to remove sometimes (happened twice here), making the frame worthless

I will check that for sure. Next question is do most use all mountain bike components or all road components or a mixture of both....?

Depending on what year this bike is, it might have French metric threads, and parts are hard to find. Check out the Classic and Vintg forum for information.

It's hard to appreciate from the picture, but I can't see a rear derailleur hanger. This, and the colors suggest to me this is a late eighties, bottom of the range US Express model. Nice geometry for touring (long CS and angles).

Ended up passing on this frame, but I found another potential one. WHat do yo think of this one. Its a Giant Cypress SX 2004.......

The Grand Prix is a nice frameset, a ten-speed from the Bike Boom era, so probaly with 27" wheels. If you convert it to 700c you'll need long-reach brakes, but in exchange you'll be able to fit fatter tires (32c or maybe 35c). The problem with Raleigh is that their bottom brackets and headsets were not ISO threaded. They were such an important company that they had their own standard, and so if these parts are shot you'll have a hard time trying to get replacements.
The Peugeot, OTH, is probably of Canadian built, so BB and headsets are all ISO.
