hey, all:
i posted this over in the MTB forum but realized it's not so much about mountain bikes as it is about carbon frames in general. i've got a carbon frame on the way to me, and while i've dealt with plenty of carbon on road bikes i've not dealt with a carbon frame for a MTB.

this frame has a press fit bb. i'm also going to install an angleset.

with aluminum, i'd make sure the bb cups and headset cups had a healthy amount of grease. is there any difference in pressing these cups into a carbon frame vs aluminum?

on my road bikes due to the particular bbs and headsets, i've not had to press them into the frame.

Other than the tolerances being much more critical for carbon vs. metal, no. As far as the tolerance issue goes, it's the manufacturers job since there's not much you can do about it anyway.

thanks. so....grease?

the reason i ask is that, for example, on a carbon frame i use carbon paste on the seatpost. is that only for carbon-to-carbon? is it always grease for carbon-to-aluminum?

i've got a carbon frame on the way to me,
Hiddenset is common these days , parts just go in without force.

press fit sealed bearing bearings get loctite. to keep them in.

If you haven't done the work before , you got a shop to do it right?

i've built up 4 carbon road bikes from scratch and have built countless mountain bikes, including pressing headsets into aluminum frames.

i simply haven't had to press plastic bb cups into a carbon frame, nor have i had to press an aluminum headset into a carbon frame. (the road bikes used hiddenset-type headsets.)

so....the headset (a cane creek angleset, to be specific) WILL need to be pressed into a carbon headtube.

you're saying loctite on the pressfit bb cups?

grease on the headset cups?
