Electric Bikes - I'm very happy with my solid airless tires...

now that I have been able to get a few hundred miles on my ebike , I can report that I am pleased with the solid airless tires . I think they are a good investment for anyone worried about flat tires or blowouts when doing higher speeds on a ebike. Its a nice feeling to know you wont ever have to worry about the most common break down while bicycling...flat tires. Its also nice to not have to carry around extra tools or patchs or air pumps in case of a flat tire.

I'm assuming your bike has some sort of other suspension?

front shocks and a spring seat. The ride isnt bad at all...but I stay on mostly paved surfaces. I would imagine trying to use these airless tires on a mountain bike for off road cycling would be a bit harsh of a ride.

Good to hear - if I can find one in 700C I might be tempted - with the hub motor in the back, I have to carry about 20 tools just to remove the wheel. I have no suspension on the trike though, short of my tires and steel frame. Although the tires are currently around 90PSI, so they don't cushion so much as is.

My bike uses 700c ...I got my tires thru amerityre....call them and they can help you choose the right ones...
you do have to measure your inside rim bead width...lip to lip on the inside top of the rim...
mine had to be something like 18-22 m.m. for the tires I ordered..
this measurement is important` because it is this inside bead lip that holds the solid tires on the rim.
my front rim measured properly for a front tire...but my rear rim, that came from hong kong with the electric hub already attached, had to large of a inner bead lip width....therefore I had to purchase another 700c rim that measured 18-22 m.m at the bead lip....
it really is a great feeling to know you wont get a flat tire, or need to take the rims off to repair a flat tire on the road..which also means I dont need to caryy any tools or bicycle pump or extra tubes, etc.

If they made one for a 20" x 4.25" tire, then I would get one.

I ordered a set today. I was thinking about trying a set of these then today I got another flat on the rear. Luckily it was at home.

what was your inside bead width measuremnet in millimeters ?
are you in the 18-22 m.m area ?
if so...I can tell you it is kinda tuff to get the tires on the rim if you rim bead measurement is 20 m.m or less.....you will need a big flat scrrewdriver..a pair of vice grips and a big pair of channel locks....you may want to have a bottle of soapy water near by to constantly spray the tire lip. I used the channel locks to actually squeeze the top of the tire and the bottom of the rim together, on each section of tire that is set in the rim, to get the tire bead to seat with the rim bead...
its a bit of work..but once that sucker is on the rim, she aint coming off unless you cut it off.

I got my tires the other day. I had high hopes for these, but they didn't work out so well. I got 26 X 1.50's. They weren't too bad to put on. Mine must not have been as tight as yours because the one problem I had was the fear that the front tire would roll off the rim. The ride was squirrely and was worse the more weight I had on the bike. My bike weights over 100 pounds with the extra battery, I go about 185. With my 90 pound son on the back it was noticeably worse. The ride was fine as far as that goes. I usually keep my regular tires pumped up pretty hard.
I put my regular tire back on the front and will give that a try. The rear is my main concern anyway so if it works this way I'm fine with it.

sounds like your tire isnt properly sized for your inner bead width measurement....theres no way in hell my tires can come off the rim, unless I take a zaw saw and cut them off.
as far as weight on the tires...my bike is about 80 lbs and im about 280lbs...so I have 360 lbs on my front and rear airless tires...no problems at all.

My rims measured 17mm to 18mm. So far it's pretty good with just the airless on the rear.

Last night I broke a spoke on my rear wheel. I didn't think too much of it, just replaced it and trued up the wheel. Today I broke four more. Replaced them trued up the wheel and put my regular tire back on, so much for that.

Sorry to hear that....did you have 14 Ga spokes on rear wheel ? I am using 12 Ga spokes becuase I figured it would provide more strength for the soild tire. Ive only put a few hundred miles on my setup, but so far havent had any spokes break . I dont do mountain biking thought...strictly flat road surfaces. I also tied my spokes at the center with stainless steel wire , to keep them stiff and in place.

Mine are 14 gauge. All my riding is on road.
