Hi All

I rescued this from a farm yard with a view to compete in a charity hill climb (Frome Cobble Wobble) with a mate. Anyone know what it is? Originally we were just going to razz it up the hill & stick it back where it came from but now I've cleaned it up a little I'm starting to fall in love with the idea of having a tandem in the garage. The groupset is a mix of Huret & AT. It needs new wheels (specific tandem ones needed?), chains & cables. If anyone can offer any help I'd be grateful.

Looks similar to our Peugeot.

Did you mean TA rather than AT?

Better pictures would help, but I'm inclined to agree with bubba1640... it looks very much like a Gitane.

Yes, TA not AT. I'll stick some better pics up now I've cleared the foliage & pressure washed her. French eh? I feel a stripey jumper & a cigarette coming on. Any ideas on the age (the bike not me, I'll be 43 on Tuesday!)

late '70's to mid '80's Measuring the rear frame inside width (OLD for the hub) may give you a better idea.

Looks like a good project :)

If your team is not too heavy, and you are not planning heavy turning, tandem specific wheels are not needed.

Suggestions:
* clean and inspect the current front hub; if no cracks, rebuild and re-use with new Wheelsmith or equivalent spokes.
* measure OLD for a replacement hub. Halo Spin Doctor is available in 135mm OLD for 48 spokes.
* Tektro R559 brakes; those center pulls are scary, even on a single.
* 700c rims; I'd go with Sun CR18 or Alex DM18; both relatively low cost.

Keep in mind that frame is no where near as stiff as a mid 90s or newer tandem.
