Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - New Frame?

Hey guys i have been riding a road for quite some time and ive been looking to build myself a fixed gear. so what are you opinions on a nice fixed gear?, i would like to spend up to 1200$. i would most likely be riding long/short rides 15-20 miles a day, and looking im mostly looking at the aluminum frames that are really light, Cinelli, bianchi concept, what are your thoughts on those frames? for my type of riding?. Thanks for your input

If you're looking for an aluminum frame, the ones you listed (Cinelli Mash/Vigorelli, Bianchi Pista Concept) are pretty good for your price range. However they will be considerably stiffer, and that could be uncomfortable for some.

Save the extra $400 until you know what upgrades you want. If you pick out all the individual parts now you'll probably change your mind on some of them in a bit.

But Concpets are nice

If I had the money to burn and was interested in an aluminum frame, I would consider one of these. Clunky welds and not as smooth as, say, a Dodici Gara or even a Special, but the pursuit looks are pretty hawt.

Crappy components. Such as b43's.... which are practically each boat anchors... and an overly long seatpost. Trust me I've came across the likes of more heavy pista concepts/ super pistas than vigorellis.

Owning both, equally deservingly well spec'd, you can go both ways to be honest and be well off; nothing wrong except you buying either and not riding it. I find however, the tubing on the vigorelli more specialized/ engineered, with the technology put into the design of the frame being more evident; thanks to columbus tubing owning cinelli. You can't go wrong with cinelli's flag ship paint scheme if you do choose to get a vigorelli in white.

To assert neutrality between the 2; I had my pista concept for much longer, since 2004! Here again the ride quality and performance differences are perhaps too close to call in my opinion when compared to a vigorelli when sharing the same components. Believe me, I one close to selling one of them. It's a comparison of stiff to stiff basically. Sure the colorway is a bit simple but this is one of those cases where simple works. My only thing against it is how bianchi got a bit lazy with the designing of the seat tube cut away and just put a ugly metal bandage over the incision as opposed to the seat tube cut away of say a newer leader 725.

Both of those are pretty similar in weight: 59cm 2006 Pista Concept frame/fork weighs 1520g/610g and 54cm 2011 Vigorelli frame/fork weighs 1500g/560g.

However the Vigorelli is going to be easier to find at a shop or online retailer.

Leuky sorta beat me there, so yeah, you aren't really going wrong with either.

The vigorelli is harder to find actually, supply is more of a question for both either way. Yup, the runs for both aren't that large considering the price you drop for them. Online, cinelli and bianchi are equally easy to find BUT in store, cinelli doesn't have that big of a dealer network as bianchi does; trust me, I had to drive 45 mins just to get my vigorelli back home whilst a 10 - 20 min walk to one of 3 bianchi dealers near my house.

To be honest, if you want exotic/ flashy I would go with a vigorelli; riding both, the vigorelli's livery turns a lot of heads, attracts stares, and gets a lot of compliments from everyone, even bike mechanics than the lower toned bianchi does; just recently my vigorelli upstaged a god knows how much full carbon TT bike at the shop. It's a ferrari vs. equally priced porsche effect (you see porsches/ pista concepts more often than say a ferrari/ vigorelli). Can't say for the athena white bianchi pista paint scheme (it's rare to get one in good condition these days if you were wondering) however considering white is more eye catching and my bianchi pista is a matte black; go figure.

At least at City Grounds the older white Vigs are more expensive than the new black ones. Was there a price drop or are they just jacking the prices on the nicer looking color scheme?

Too close to call in both cases performance and comfort. Let's face it comfort wise, fact is, aluminum is a harsh unforgiving ride. I was going to sell my vigorelli but I ended up keeping it; the vigorelli because it would've hauled in some more money as they were not that common in the bay area at the time, before iminusd became a big cinelli track oriented dealer during the cinelli MASH launch; but even still the vigorelli is less common than the pista concept because the pista concept was launched a couple years ahead of the vigorelli. 2nd, I had my pista concept a couple years longer than my vigorelli, it's officially 8 years old this year, it was my first legitimate track frame, so there was more sentimental value. Not to mention it has a uncommon colorway being matte black with celeste decals and army lettering on the top tube denoting the model and year.

For 1200, you could get a very very nice custom frame built up for you out of lightweight yet forgiving and comfortable steel.

WELL ive ridden both steel and aluminum, aluminum is pretty bad going over a bumpy road but other than that its not as bad as a steel frame for me.

Since performance is about the same, we break it down to which looks more badass. The bianchi celeste green and the cinelli vigorelli 2010 in a white?
