Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - new pedals and bars?

ello, seriously upgrading my Feather here; could use some help selecting new handlebars and pedals.

i'm thinking this would look sick with Nitto drops, but i'd love to hear some other opinions. definitely don't want to go with flat bars - either bullhorns or drops.

the pedals are Campagnolo platforms of some sort, but they don't have a flip tab (or anywhere to install them AFAICT), so they're a pain in the a**. i'm thinking of going to MKS GR-9s or White Industries Urban Platforms. are the White Industries pedals worth the $200 price tag?? they look hawt.

any other feedback would be great too. thanks!

Nitto makes over 10 different different drop bars. I would guess you mean one of their track drops, but they are much much less practicaly than a set of road drops. In the track drop area they have more variety than any other manufacturer, which is their biggest appeal. But in the road drop market they arent special, except for the noodle drops.

People that have the WI pedals love them, but there is the price tag. No one can tell you if they are worth it to you. But they are defiantly not a crappy pedal.

I'd say just get gr-9s...I love mine

yep, i meant b123s. i just found a set on craigslist for $45 and am picking them up this afternoon. i'll let you know how they work out! i have a feeling i'll be going back to bullhorns once the novelty wears off though. the Origin8 bars that came on it don't seem all that bad... any opinions on the RB021 bars? looks like you'd have lots of room to stretch out on those.

Nitto B123 are the deepest track drops around. Right now, with your bullhorn bars, your hands are even with your saddle. Put the B123s on and your hands will be down near your front tire...or scrunched together on the tops near the stem. Neither one is a comfortable riding position. Yes, it will look nice...but be not fun to ride. Stick with the bullhorns. If you do decide to get the B123s, get a stem to be dedicated for them. It will be a ROYAL P.I.T.A to unwrap and re-wrap bars every time you decide to switch bars.

good points. i'll keep that in mind, and probably get a nicer stem when i figure out what kind of bars i like. i'd probably have to anyway since the rb021's seem to fit a 26mm clamp, and mine is 25.4mm.

got it, thanks for clearing that up. anyone want a pair of cheap Triomphe pedals? i got the original straps and everything. ;)

The original straps dont matter much, but if they still have a the original clips they are worth a dencent bit. They broke pretty often and fit on the nicer pedals.

I just put some WI pedal on my bike...LOVE them.

Had the sylvans and didn't like them at all...GR-9s seemed narrow, so went for the WI's.

Traditional for racing the flat section is parallel to the ground. But fit is personal to you.

It's a good thing you went with looking cool over practical and comfortable.

It's pretty obvious by the fact that your stem is at max extension that you are already having issues with how low the bars are. But, whatevs. You got your track drops. Now it's time for a proper photoshoot.

ok, not exactly how i see it... i came in asking for general suggestions already planning to try out track drops, got some good comments on the pedals, and took your advice and got a second stem. not sure why you think i didn't like the suggestions, when i thanked you for them and followed them. i'm planning to get some different bullhorns as well, but didn't see any suggestions about that even after i mentioned the Nitto bullhorns i was looking at.

thanks for the comment on the stem extension - i set it so my hands were about at the same spot and figured i'd adjust from there. bit too early to say i'm having "issues" though. edit: now that i think about it, the bars are a bit lower and the ends are nearly parallel with the ground - made some adjustments after kayce commented (thanks!).

anyway, wasn't actually upset, just trying to match the trolling, guess it was a bit too early.

In all honesty, I don't think I would ever spend $200 on pedals. Maybe a clipless pedal+shoe combo, but not on pedals alone. That's just me though.

i assume those have built in energy shields, allow flight, and guarantee attractive sex partners. at least they come with straps...

^they're campy. it's doesn't have to do anything except let you show off to your friends that you have campy parts.
