Classic & Vintage - shimano 600 sis shifting
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I'm new to this forum and found tons of info about the shimano 600 sis shifters. Only thing I couldnt find is how to change them from index to friction (or vis versa). I took it apart but could see anything that would change the shifting mode. I also try to turn the ring on the outter part to friction or index but it doesnt really turn easily. Any info would be helpful. thanks

strange, all the SIS i have seen has the friction - index positions clearly indicated with arrows. If it's not turning easily I suggest cleaning :) be careful with lubing though, a loose shifter may generate unwanted shifts.

Most down tube indexed shifters can easily be switched from indexed to friction and back again simply by flipping the switch from indexed to friction. Nothing to it.
