Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - New to cycling - want a fixed wheel though..

Hey - i want to start cycling and keen to wade in asap and also keen to go the fixed wheel route but not keen to fork out a load of cash to start with...i've found a 'VIKING ROAD FIXIE 2010' for £150 which seems to be a good price but is it cheap because its a piece of sh*t or is it actually a respectable little number for me to start with?

viking so I've heard makes pretty respectable "track" frames. You really can't go wrong with lugged reynolds frame. Unless the bike has been hit by a bus I'd say that's a good price.

Th viking isnt lugged or reynolds, and neither of those things matter tha much. Reynolds makes a huge variety of tubing, and lugs are vintage lust that is not the best system of building today.

The viking has really solid geometry, and average parts. I dont know the price of bikes in the UK, but it doesnt seem terrible expensive from my perspective. I wouldnt say dont get it.

you are misinformed...viking IS lugged & double-butted reynolds.

i heard of people buying a viking, then never really seeing their reactions on the forum. could be a good sign...

but the more important part of everything is, of course, fit and size. if it's too big/small you're gonna hate it. esp cause it has "track geometry" and what looks like a super twitchy fork, if it's the original one.

that doesnt matter. Handmade lugged frames sell for thousands of dollars because you can barspin.

gross. I would buy an old conversion (a lugged steel one) long before I bothered with that bike.

Well it's about $250 USD for a hiten frame and fork. Here in the USA that would be an ok deal at most, but IDK what prices are like in the UK.
