Classic & Vintage - Source for 5-6-7-speed gold chain?

I see lots of gold single speed and 10-speed and one 9-speed but no 5-6-7-speed. Anybody know where to get any?

I have been looking for over a year. I have found nothing.

They're often on eBay. They tend to turn brown faster than they wear out. I used to use nothing else but these chains and the matching freewheels. What a waste of money!

Kind of depends on the freewheel IME. I have been using 9 speed chains on some of my 6-7 freewheels with good results in some cases, not so good in other cases. Always seems to work with Shimano, sometimes with Suntour. The only 5-6-7 gold chains I have found have been poor performers. I use them only for show and remove them for rides.

Will work fine. The 9 speed chain is a fraction narrower at the rivets and more flexible.

Thanks Lynn, what do you mean by good/or bad results? Shifting quality? drivetrain noise? The freewheel has plain and simple cogs, no hyperglide/uniglide/whatevs tooth pattern. Because the bike is mainly intended as a nice ride for sunny sundays over flat terrain shifting isn't that much of a big deal, I can put up with a few misshifts.

You know in a discussion in an old thread about what they used to make freewheels gold somebody said that Regina Oro cogs were brass plated. If that's true and the chains are brass plated as well, that would explain the turning brown.

They're certainly not gold plated.
