Get a Tree, S&M, Animal, or FBM, or wait for the new Odyssey Vermont to come out in a month or so.

I can't speek for him, but in general you get info from reading a riding magazine and looking through dan's or any other bmx catalogues perhaps... eventually you can spot the new stuff without looking for it.. and you hear this sort of stuff around, ya know.. "Did you see the new Odyssey sproket man?" Ya' know, stuff like that.

Actually, I know this because I do a lot of sprocket tricks and I run a Tree. Aside from a slight bend which I fixed simply by rotating it (which you can do up to 5 times), I've had no problems with it. Basically, any 7075 grade aluminum sprocket is going to alst you awhile; this includes the Tree, the new Odyssey Vermont, and the FBM. The Animal and S&M sprockets are 6061 aluminum, which isn't as strong, but they're beefier designs (fewer cutouts, basically), so there isn't that much loss in strength, although they'll generally be a bit heavier.
