Hi all,

Am in the market for some new shoes as mine have started to fall apart. I have a size 44 at the moment but I find them quite tight - especially in winter with thick socks on.

I was considering getting a size 45 with a ractchet mechanism and was wondering if this would secure my foot enough come the summer time when thinner socks can be used?

Are the shoes tight length-wise or width-wise?
If length-wise, try a size 44.5 or 45.
If width-wise, try a wider shoe, like Lake or Sidi mega.

The ratchet closure will keep the shoes on your foot but if you get a larger size (45) when a 44 is what you really need it will be like wearing street shoes that are a size too big.

OK, you have made a frame, now fill in the picture , what type of shoe
for what type of riding?

lots of touring cyclists Like Shimano's sandals, as width is an adjustment..
resolving the tight fit, with thick socks.

Personally, on a long bike tour really sloppy fitting shoes were fine,
I fit good supportive insoles, in them, and rode for Months.
as I had little interest in Performance for it's own sake..
I was going and seeing and stopping for a few pints with the locals :beer:

mtb shoes for commuting. The ones I have are a bit tight width ways (and height ways), I use custom orthotics and also another insole for the winter so it can get a bit cramped in there.

I'm going to the bike shop today and will wear very thin socks - then try the 2 sizes out.
