Classic & Vintage - I love Gooooold

Sometimes, a project springs forth of a single component. This time it's a pair of gold MAFAC competitions. I'm trying to get a complete gold groupset together, and so far I just have the brakes and a freewheel, and chains can of course be ordered. I know simplex made gold deraillers in the seventies, are there any others? Pics and info in the comments please :D

I recently won some galli levers on ebay in gold, which I have the matching calipers already.
I think Galli did some derailleurs in gold too, there was a derailleur zeus available in gold, a suntour superbe spec'd in black and gold too, there arent that many though, I've searched around!

I have a set of hard anodized Ukai rims that are a dark gold colour.

I saw a gold brakeset, levers and calipers in Topeka Kansas at a bike shop. They were in a presentation box, believe they were Gran Compe's and the owner of the shop got them in Japan when he visited the plant years ago. I had to get a towel to wipe up the drool.

I really wanna build a gold wheelset, but its not easy to find anything easy on the eyes for as far as rims goes, Velocity aeroheads may be a possibility if a source of mine has anything left, but he said he really doubted such.

I saw a beautiful set of EDCO hubs and semi aero Rigida's pass by a few weeks ago, too bad I missed out on the bidding due to a vacation in Morocco (a country which is filled with French tenspeeds to gawk at, by the way).

I still have the gold Simplex SLJ derailleurs and retro-friction shifters...and with the strong Euro (or a Dutch frameset ;) ) they will be a bargain for a Dutchman!

I have a full set of the gold Comps, too! Great-looking brake, particularly with the wheel guides installed. Um. I wouldn't go too overboard on the gold scheme, it's easy to make a bike look like a bordello wallhanging... but that's just me.

I have seen allot of small parts powder coated gold on some of the newer motorcycles and a few BMX bikes - They look great - The more shinny the surface before coating the better the sheen - Or sand blast for an even patina - Gold plating is of course the best look but gold plating aluminum is a many step process that requires time and talent - Heres a pic stripped form a UK site...

Yup my favourite movie of all time! and the bordello wallhanging look is exactly the look I want to create, including a selle italia turbo recovered in snakeskin, with matching bar wrap :P

There was a lovely Mercier on ebay recently with the full gold treatment, and it was pretty stunning. Almost bid, but I'm not a French bike guy.

Modolo made some gold components. I'm using a set of their gold non-aero brake levers on my single speed.
My gold brakes are DiaCompe G - that's the component that got me started.
Make sure you get some gold bottle cages, too. I don't recall who made mine.
Look for some gold ano crank bolts as a finishing touch,
and gold chainrings weren't too hard to find.
And if you really are crazy, a gold carbon saddle. My fat-a$$ did finally break mine after 3 years.:rolleyes:

IF someone wants a set of these ^ gold Galli bits in similar shape, I may part with some the same as above, plus the gold shifters, brake levers and gold/black rear derailleur... I bought a bike with those Galli parts in good shape, but want to switch to Campagnolo Record ('76 Nuovo vintage). Not givin' 'em away, but...

That's really a Stronglight model 106 crank, rebranded for Galli.
I think the 106 IMO, is one of the finest cranks made by the French but for some reason never gets the recognition it deserves. Stronglight finsihed these cranks really nicely and even added a flutes to the back of the arms which is an unusual touch for any brand to do. The big bonus is the very light weight while being tough as I never heard of any cracking issues with these unlike some cranks that so much more than these (Hello Campy SR and Mavic SSC)

wow, quite struck with gold fever now! How hard would it be to anodize parts yourself? I've seen some tutorials online but it seems quite bothersome to deal with all that acid.

I recently traded a Cannondale Black Lightning for a Centurion Elite RS Gold.

The Black Lightning has a beautiful paint job (in less than perfect condition on mine): Black with gold fleck.
I have a couple pictures but you really have to see it in person to appreciate it.

The Centurion has gold anodized Dia-Compe non-aero brake levers and brakes and a gold anodized large chainring.
