Mountain Biking - Seat Post Shock

I am thinking about putting a seat post shock on my bike and was wondering what you think about it ! So PLEASE LEAVE YOUR OPINION:beer: :beer:

I wouldn't on a soft tail but a hard I would. I'm getting me a hardtail sometime next week and I plan to purchase a seat with shocks.
I will let you know how they are. 8)

I had one and didn't like it!

I bought a hardtail that had the suspension post as stock equipment.

I never knew where the seat was, and it was always where I didn't want it to be! For example, I set the seat height so when I was sitting, my height would be correct. When I was climbing and had a lot of my weight forward, my height changed. When I was decending rough terrain I would stand up and the saddle would too and hit me in "da boys". If I needed to get Waaaayyyy off the back going down a steep drop, the seat would hit me in the gut and I'd get hung up on my shorts! I just hated the thing, sold it on ebay and bought a Thomson Elite Post!

I've got a USE Shokpost on my bike and I love it. It's pretty lightweight too, so it didn't bother me too much.

As with everything, it's horses for courses...give one a try, and see if you can get on with it.

i was wondering what the up's and down's of the getting a seat post shock ... i was wanting to know relitively soon so your advice would be much appreciated... thanx

also if you recently have one and whether you personally liked it or even just your personal opinion one the seat post shock.... your opinions would be taken in to must consideration..

My wife's bike is a Trek 7100 hybrid, which includes a suspension seatpost. I was rather jealous and so had one installed on my 800 Sport. It rides quite nicely. Of course it helps that the stock saddle is more comfy than any other I've experienced.

I have heard the best testimonials from people who use the Cane Creek Thudbuster (I haven't tried a suspension seatpost myself). Not surprisingly, it is quite expensive.

I imagine the ideal user would be someone who just needs the 'edge' taken off of potholes - that's why you often see them spec'd on 'comfort' bikes. I think that by the time you spent enough to get a decent one, you would be better spending it somewhere else. What is bothering you that is making you consider buying one?

I have one that I move from my road bike to my hard tail mtn bike and I think it is better tham a full suspension which I also own. With a frront shock it makes for a very nice ride. Cheap too I have a Post Moderne

well.. i don't desperatly " need " one but i thought i would be a nice addition to my mtb

as we get older the need to preserve the aging body becomes more important so preventing road shocks from entering the bone structure and soft tissue can only be a good thing. Once you get used to riding with one, you really miss it when you don't have one. Maybe I just like smooth rides. Ihave gone many years without it but I am glad that I have one now. There is also one that came on my tandem for the stoker and my wife love it. so I can only say good things about this device...... besides aside from beer where else would you spend your money?

I have a cane creek Thud Buster. I love it. It totally takes the little bumps out of the ride. Plus it's easier to keep your butt seated on thoes rough downhills.
Worth the money totally!
The only drawbacks are how much it weighs and with my ride hight in order to put my bike on my work stand (which is where I store it) I have to adjust the height.
