Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 1/8" chain on 3/32 drivetrain....
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I know it can be done, because I'm doing it, but are there any benefits to running an all 1/8" drivetrain?
Are there any benefits to an all 3/32 drivetrain?
Will I get longer or shorter component life with any combinations?
The 1/8" chain is $4 at my LBS, and the 3/32 is over $10....
Why is the sky blue?
Why does it burn when I pee?

I recommend you see a urologist asap.

It burns cause you slept with him....
from my understanding the thicker the chain the more it weighs but also the longer it last.

You _may_ experience a more quiet drivetrain with all components being 1/8" or 3/32". I suspect this is purely subjective though.
Weight savings would be roughly equivalent to taking a dump before a ride.

Running a 1/8" chain on 3/32" parts was pretty damn noisey on my conversion. I have all 3/32" now and my bike is pretty much silent (although it's also all DA now too).
Supposedly 3/32" is more forgiving for off chainlines, as it's "more flexible".
If it's not bothering you I wouldn't stress.

No advantage in running 3/32" chain.
1/8" chain allows you to mix and match any drive chain components.
Burning with urination is often an indication of a urinary tract infection. Seek medical help.

I always run 3/32 because I like White Ind freewheels and they are all 3/32. I'm really not sure what the point of 1/8 is. Strength improvement is insignificant since there's not a man on the planet that can snap a 3/32 chain with foot power. If it breaks, it was damaged/defective already.

Ok I'm cruising eBay and craigslist for extra cogs, and just get whatever comes my way for cheap!
Got some cool looking Suntours on the way now.
