General Cycling Discussion - peeing off the bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know pros do it in tour de france, just wondering if anyone here ever gave it a shot?
I'm not trying to be a troll, just genuinely curious.

Tried it. Succeeded. Got too much back for me to want to try it again.

In American football- where men are men, they just believe in using extra bleach on their uniforms to get out the spots.
Are pro cyclists less manly. I guess sanitizing saddles are more of a chore.

Never tried it. Used to ride with a buddy who was pretty good at it. He's since moved to Texas and I suppose still does it since it is a big state and out in the country there's nobody around to see.:)
He used to say "Well I'm dropping back for a WOW (whizz on wheels). He suggested it is best to try it on a rainy day so if it doesn't work out your bike will get cleaned off by the road spray. I guess it has to do with a "venturi" effect or something. I've never had the nerve to try it.

Haaaaa! I think women are at a definite disadvantage on this!

I'm not very "skilled" so I always have to stop and get off the bike. :(
I can't ride with no hands either  like this.

I've never had to take a leak or a dump while riding. But I've never been on long rides either. Geez, I might go practice so on May 11 and 12 when I do the Tour De Cure I can amuse everybody.

I usually stop and find a spot behind a big stroppy gum tree.
I would like to try it, but, it takes two hands to handle the whopper and I always need at least one hand on the handlebars:D

I'm not very "skilled" for my height, so I probably would have a problem doing this also, not that I want to try it. I'll take a tree.

Why pee OFF the Bike, when you can pee ON it? In a pinch I find it an excellent way to clean off gritty brakes, rear derailleur and chainwheel. I do not like to go fast downhill and often ride my brakes, so from time to time I have cooled off my rims by whizzing on them as well.

I had to stop on the way home from work after a long walk because it was hot and I drank waaaaaay to much water and I had to ditch into a creekbed only 1/3 mile from home.
AAAAHHhhhhh...... :)

This is difficult to believe, as one person stated. I only believe it becasue I recall a Bicycling Magazine, taking a long distance shot from behind, of a Tour De France pro,' using this time saving method.
My question, how does this effect steering and response to road obstacles. God, hate to crash while engaging in this act.

ESPN (?) had a clip of a guy peeing off his bike durring the Kona Traiathalon last year, he was holding his speed quite well! I just hope he had a strong side wind to help stay clear!
Maybe this is why they have a no drafting rule? :)

This oughta teach everyone to keep well behind me.

I'll try this if someone will loan me their Bianchi. The color may just improve as a result!

Stay in saddle and press down heheh:D
I won't be trying it again since I caught my 'old man' in the spokes of my back wheel and had to have it re-trued .

On a related note: a local celebrity said in his 50-years interview that he has noticed getting older. 25 years ago, if he saw a beautiful girl he could lift a bucket filled with water with his you-know-what. He can't do that anymore because his knees won't take the pressure.

Peeing off the bike seems like a good way to pee on the bike. Peeing on the bike seems like a good way to wash the lube off the chain. The main thing that keeps me from trying to urinate from the bike, however, is the fear of crashing. I'd hate to be found lying in the road, unconcious, with my bike shorts down. The possibilities for abrasions and degloving are horrifying. I think I will just continue to play it safe and get off the bike to pee behind a tree.

Lance would never pee on the bike.
He would stop, get off, pee, sH#), eat, sleep, etc, then get on and win.

Or you could just modify a Camelback with the tube going into the, well you know what. That way you won't have to worry about making a mess.

I find it difficult enough taking a squirt in those tight riding shorts standing up (especially when sweaty).
One option I can see is if you pre-attach a flexable tube to your..., er, "discharge device", then run the tube down and out the leg of your shorts, and down the seat tube and dump out on the ground. But, unless you off-set it to the side enough, it would get on the back wheel and come back and hit you on your back and head!
But, I guess you could use an old water bottle as a catch-can in the cage on the seat tube. (Just don't forgot which one to drink out of!)
This wouldn't work to good with long pants. And, of course, don't forget to detach the tube before getting off the bike!

These come in handy too. ;)
There are tales of Tour riders having the misfortune of a bout of diarrhea mid-tour and having to just grin and bear it as their shorts rapidly filled due to shear determination to win.

This is only slightly related to the subject.
I just bought a new pair of Santini bibs. Many suggest bibs are inconvenient for taking a leak. The short's construction makes it easy to pee on the bike, if you so choose. They are the best fitting bibs I have ever experienced.
