I know nothing about bents. Is sizing a big factor?

No, just thinking about adding another dimension to my riding. I would like to try a bent for a bit, see how I like it. Not giving up anything, just thinking about adding something.

Thracian wheels, $400; fairing probably about the same.

With the extras, I'd say it's a great deal. Take off the fairing immediately - you don't want to scratch it up while learning to ride. It can always go back on later. And I'm not sure why the rack is there; maybe to hold all the tail lights?

Well, my first bent experience was with a high BB short wheelbase similar to the one in the link. I took it on a self supported 10 day camping trip, covered about 500 miles, and by the time I was done with the trip, I was almost getting the hang of it.
Turned around and purchased a long wheelbase with a somewhat lower BB, and was comfortable with it from the first pedal stroke.
Big variation in configurations.

DF, that's a really nice SWB bent, I think you might like a LWB (Long Wheel Base) with a lower bottom bracket to start out in the world of bents. You can usually find a nice Rans Sirrus LE, used for a decent price or maybe a Easy Racer-Tour Easy. Jmho, hope you find a bent you like, they are a "kick" to ride! :)

I think what I wrote on the recumbent forum was enough to discourage you, but I don't think Bike-Es had mid-drives. So that is some homebrew concoction, probably to normalize gearing on the 20" drive wheel. I'd pass on it for sure! As far as the 'comfy seat' claim, Bike-E never had a lock on that aspect. Not even close. In fact, Bike-E had a reputation for recumbent butt due to the very upright seating position.

Here's a video clip I shot about 12 years ago not too long after I bought my bent. The first shot shows how my cousin took right to it with no problem.
The ending sequence shows how my friend Brian struggled to put the thing in motion. It's easy enough to see what He was doing wrong. I kept telling him to quit looking at the pedals, and just look ahead down the road. Once he got that though his head, he did fine.
