Bicycle Mechanics - bottom bracket poppling noise - or is it pedals?

I bought a 2011 TIME NXR about 2 months ago. It is setup with Campy record cranks and TIME iClic pedals.

Upon the very first real world ride I noticed a faint creak and then a pop noise from the chainring area. Because I had never ridden a Campy equipped bike, I chaulked it up to user error on gear selection or something.

Fast forward a few weeks and the noise was still happening, it is def. more of a pop noise. though not all the time. I determined the noise would happen in pretty much any gear, but almost always on the down stroke of the crank. I thought it was coming from the right side area mostly. it does not happen every single down stroke, more like a sporadic 3 times over the course of say 60 miles.

I had someone ride next to me on a century and they heard it also and confirmed the noise was coming from the front chainring area.

Took it into the shop, the shop owner who also has a TIME (RXR though) with Campy components and TIME pedals said he has had the same noise.

They replaced my BB cups/caps and repacked the BB with grease etc.

Rode it the other day, thought it was better, but now the noise came back.

So now I'm thinking.. is it really the Bottom Bracket area or could it be the pedal axes/spindles? (Sorry for the use of the wrong technical terms with parts)

Any ideas on how to solve this? Anyone heard of similar noises?

FWIW: I reached out to TIME Sport USA and it seems they are aware of the noise and it could be due to a very simple fix- the use of the proper 'color' loctite compound (Green) for the Campy BB. There is a more detailed description and reasoning that they provided, but that is the simple possible solution as of now. Ironically enough, my mechanic was pointing to the same thing. Hopefully I'll have it looked at in the next few days.

Is it a Power Torque or an Ultra Torque crankset?

Could be that peadals might need grease or so the pedals.... Also, some frames works better with, lets say BB30 as an example, and when you want to use another type of cranks that needs another type of bottom bracket you might need an adaptor to install them (Campy), sometimes it will make your bike make these sounds when sprinting or pedalling while standing up - as well doing strong downstrokes

check the chainring bolts... if they don't have lube or if they are a bit loose, they can make some periodic popping sounds.
