Hey gang,

I have a 2008 Giant Cypress DX that I got as a starter bike, but have rediscovered this season as a chip n' seal and pothole friendly county road tourer. I've swapped to skinny tires and replaced the seat and dropped the handlebars as low as they'll go.

I'm looking at putting a flat bar handlebar to get another inch or so lower on the handlebars (the stock ones have a little bit of rise built in) but the Quill stem really doesn't drop as far as I'd like. I'm thinking of replacing both the stem and the handlebars in one shot while I have everything disassembled.

Can anyone recommend a good threadless / stem adapter? I'm looking at the one from Forte and those listed on the Soma Fab site, but not really sure they'll get me where I want to be.

I've been using a Profile stem adapter for many years and it has been working ok. The only extra thing you may also need is a thin (maybe 5mm) spacer under the stem so everything fits snug against the headset.

Dangerously I used an NJS cog as a spacer...
