Cyclocross - Broken 105 Front Shifter - What to replace it with?

I have a 2007 Jamis Nova that I use for both cyclocross and road (two wheelsets). I recently broke a little metal piece off inside the left shifter while shifting. My LBS quoted my $220ish to order a new 105 shifter. If I had a dedicated road bike, I might be tempted to just run a one by 10 for cross, but until I can afford a road bike, I'd sort of like to keep my two rings up front. My options (as I see them - correct me if I'm wrong), are as follows:

1. Order new 105 shifter (ugh)
2. Order another/other shifter(s) (Veloce, Ultegra, SRAM?)
3. Buy the used Dura Ace shifter my LBS guy offered me for $100ish and have him install. The only potential problem I could see with this is that the hood for the DA shifter is a different size/shape than the 105 one. Do you think this would feel weird while riding?

For less than the price of one 105 shifter, you can get a set (Microshift) from Performance for much less. There are several Microshift threads in the Road and other forums with positive reviews, and I am loving my 9 and 10 speed MS shifters (over a year now, flawless shifting). Just something to consider rather than going with a mismatch. You could then eBay your 105 rear shifter.

I personally feel that STI for cyclocross is crazy. One good crash and that is is. $200 to $400 down the tube. Better off using campy ergos or barcons. They look cleaner and campy's are rebuildable. I've sucessfully used my ergos with shimano drivetrain with and without the jtek shiftmate thing.

Or, you can continue to ride yours as is and get a left barcon.

That being said, blue, I agree. It may be hard to believe, but I have a set of Falcon thumb (friction) shifters that work really well and cost only $4.95. Of course the brake levers are a small investment too, but the Tektro RL520's for my V-brakes are simply awesome and inexpensive. For less than $40 you could make a wicked bare-bones crosser.

I just realized that your Jamis has a 10 in the back. The shimergo thing works if you do the hubub method with a 10 speed ergo and 9 speed shimano cassette/rear derailleur. If you want to do 10 speed ergo and 10 speed shimano cassette/derailleur, you might have to get a Jtek shiftmate.

I recently upgraded to full campy on one of my frankenbikes and no longer need my jtek shiftmate. PM me if you are interested. It is the version 3 which works with 10 ergo/10 shimano cassette/shimano derailleur or 9 ergo/9 shimano cassette/shimano derailleur.

Depending on the model number of 105 shifter Shimano might warranty it. The double/triple shifter had a ton of problems and they replaced them no questions for awhile there.

I had that issue also. Mine were replaced by my LBS, even though I purchased the shifters on eBay.

Single Chainring, no front brifter needed, run the steeper hills.
you may run them quicker ..

Or, bar end shift front , A/B is a simple task
with hand as the tension force, all gear FD combos will work .
