Depends what's available to you but I have a Campy Centaur and it works fine on my 48T.

I use Shimano Dura Ace. Works fine. My smallest outher chainring is 47.
Your inner chainring is still at least 38.
The only problem is estetic. It looks better when the curve of the derailleur follows your chainring.
