Hi there.. I've recently purchased a GT Air 2011 after I had my GT Slammer 2010 stolen.. It arrived today prebuilt except for handle bars and pedals..

After assembling it I gave the crank a spin and noticed a felt quite rough and the bike wheel slows down really quick.. Its not brake rubbing as I made sure they were both clear, It just feels sluggish and hard to cycle on where as my Slammer was amazingly smooth and the rear wheel would continue to spin for minutes on a single turn..

Is this stiffness normal and/or will it ease up after use? Shall I take this up with the store I bought it from?

I live in the UK.. I don't want to use the bike for stunts or tricks.. Really is just to get me around town.

Thanks
Oli

That's an option, dealing with the store. But depending upon whether it's a sealed system or an axle & cups system. For the latter, you might simply check it for whether the inner cup lock nut(s) are tightening as the outer axle nuts are tightening the wheels in place in the dropouts. Sometimes they move on you just enough and that's causing the tight wheels. It's more of an adjustment issue rather than defective axle & bearings.

bearings may have more side force in the adjustment, than required..

wheel adjustments are commonly tight from the wheel machines in the factory.
