Mountain Biking - sponsorship

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

me and my mates want to get sponsored but we dont no how to get in contact with sponsores we make videos and do 10 foot drops jumps downhill were 13 14 and 16 year olds can you give us info
First approach a LBS and ask them about it and think (and be honest to yourself) are you really some good riders? Are these drops actually 10 foot and are you fast at DH? One of the best ways to get sponsorship is to race DH and be consistently in the top 3. This will get the attention of low companies and your LBS and then you can work your way up.
Also, don't expect to get much, you will (if you get sponsorship) ony get grassroots at max, this means you get things at cost or (most usualy for newly sponsored) at cost plus X%. Grass roots gives you more exposure and the ability to possibly get better sponsorship. Really it's grassroots because, they like it when you grow, but don't mind gutting you when things get tough. Really the best bet you have is to approach your LBS.

Yes, start with speaking to a LBS like Hopper said. Also, Try to race, and see how good you are, because people want to sponsor riders that will promote their items, not just wear them in the woods behind their house. Go and compete in any way that you can, get your names out there, and show people that you can hang with other riders in races/ other events, then go out and look for a sponsorship. Also, it helps if you are friends with the LBS owner/workers. Good luck in your search

A 10 foot drop is the equivalent of a 5 foot drop 2 years ago. Nothing.
IMO, racing is the only way you're gunna get sponsored unless you start getting good enough to ride in some demos of some kind. I think the biggest question I have is, why do you want to be sponsored? If you're not racing, costs just to ride arent THAT much. Free bikes would be cool, yeah, but unless you're going to make a company money by riding theirs, I wouldnt expect any money any time soon.

Totally agreed Burly
A 10 footer isnt really that big nowadays.....racing is the main way to get sponsored. Racing is expensive.....just riding isnt that bad.

Especially with the new flock of bmx converts...big drops will go away (30 ft and below) and lots of tricks...backflips, front flips, tables, nothings, flipwhips, tailwhips etc...hucking won't get you much from the average freerider let alone companies .
