Hi
I am in the process of restoring a 1950-something Hercules (black with thick tires) and need a replacement front badge since the existing one is damaged. Can anyone help? I live in South Africa...

PS how do I determine the age of my bike?
Do you have a picture of the badge? Is this an AMF Hercules?
I have a 1962 (I believe) AMF Hercules badge if you are interested. Let me know.

Hi
I have in fact found and ordered a badge on eBay. My bike is a black mens bicycle. Similar to the more common (in South Africa) Raleigh Challenger. The badge I ordered is by the looks of things painted green on brass. It has a big "H" under which stands "Birmingham England". I dont know if it is the correct badge for the bike. I might well need another badge in future if I restore another Hercules....
More questions: a) Is it acceptable to re-paint vintage bicycles? Or should the original paintwork be preserved, even if in a less-than-optimal state?
b) How do I determine the age of my bicycle?
Regards
Charl
If it has a Sturmey Archer rear hub AND it's original to the bike the date code will be on there.

If it says Birmingham you are good, a 1950s Hercules is an actual hercules not a raleigh built bike, AMF hercules are Raleigh built hercules sold by AMF in the US.
