I took apart my freewheel the other day, cleaned all the parts, and just put it back together today. When I reattached that ring on the front with the two holes in it (it says Shimano), I tried tightening it as much as I could. When I couldn't tighten it anymore, I tried testing out the ratcheting mechanism by turning it, and it was really hard to turn. I loosened the ring on the front a bit, and it got better.
The problem is, I remember when I was taking that ring off, it was REALLY stuck tight. Now, to get it to turn smoothly, the ring is looser than what I think it should be. How much should I tighten this thing, and should I worry about it coming off while riding?
I also have another question. When I opened up the freewheel, I noticed it was really clean in there, and lubricated with what seemed a light oil. Any recommendations on the type of lube I should use on the freewheel? Thanks a lot
edit: I think i know why it tight. I forgot to put the spacers back in.
