I got into mountain biking last year with a Raleigh M40. I liked it (biking) so much that I upgraded a little to a new Trek 4500. To make a long story short, I am trying to find the best shock setting
(sag). The Rock Shox TT that I have now have a pre load adjustment. The manual stated adjust to 13-20mm when sitting on the bike. I did this, but the shocks still seem kinda stiff and only really cushion larger bumps when wieght is behind it. maybe I am too used to my older RST omni shocks that seemed to cushion any little bump I encountered. Anyway, I would just like some input from a shock expert on how my shock should work. Thanx:confused:

If I'm not mistaken the RockShox TT only has the preload adjusters (on top of stancions) and no other external adjusters, Right?

Setting up your preload is a bit of trial and error. With experience, you'll know where you like yours set. Next time you go out for a ride, set them like the owner's manual suggests, then during your ride, just back them off 1/4 turn at a time until you like it!

There is no rule that says you "must" have it set for so much initial sag. Just go with what feels right. Afterall, you're the one riding the bike, not some technician at RockShox.

Thanx for the input a2psyklnut.

I will try out what u suggested. I seem to like my shox not so stiff when I am on the trails. I like the cushion I get with even the smaller obstacles. When I used the standard 13-20mm sag, it seemed like I was riding with no shox. Thanx again

I have the same bike. I'm going to adjust mine next time I go out.
