The FTPs (http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_527355_-1_202897_10000_202389) at Nashbar are super cheap right now for only $200. However, the description box says it is only 44T Max, maybe that's why they are so cheap.

Can anyone with a discount Nashbar FTP confirm that this claim?

I've heard some people have been getting updated versions without the problem and some have been getting earlier versions with the problem.

I got one...I have a 50t Dura Ace crankset on there, no rub. About 3mm of clearance.

yeah me and kevin both got ftps that were crimped from the factory to fit just about any track crank (been using my eai cobra cranks just fine with a 46, but definitely space for my 50)

our friend james though got an old version without chainstay crimping. he also got a ****ty saddle clamp topper.

Anyone know what kind of fork rake these are supposed to have? Would the 43mm ones from nashbar be alright?

cc700
06-05-11, 08:12 PM
it would be alright but i'm pretty sure fuji specs it with a lower rake fork.
http://2009.fujibikes.com/Specialty/Track/TrackPro.aspx
fork "offset" depending on size is 30-35... very low track specific.

43 won't be the end of the world, but the bike may have trouble tracking, like a shopping cart that's front loaded.
i just ordered mine today so i'm sure i'll either get refunded or receive and assemble it the day after the track closes.

I've been planning on buying my lady a bike with my next paycheck, and had decided on a kilo. With all the **** I have lying around I could assemble a FTP for not too much more but it'll be more trouble than it's worth for me.

Are you just planning on using all the parts from your Visp if you do indeed get one?

cc700
06-05-11, 08:33 PM
yeh then selling the visp. i mean, somewhat obviously. i built the visp after my extreme hardon for Koshy's FTP and honestly bought it because i didn't have the money for the ftp at city grounds.

and i'd be super surprised if a) the backordered frames ever do ship and b) they clear non-fsacarbon cranks without spacers and ridiculous q factors.

i have no doubt it's a great bike once the right crank is on it but i don't think they really realized that most of them had the crank problem until their advance order teams started telling them about it. it's a nonessential check that would have no reason to be performed, as they more than likely test the frames on predesigned rigs and then assemble them only with final shipment parts, or not at all...

LupinIII

i'm using a 43mm rake road fork since it's what i had leftover from the lynskey sale. no problems riding no handed, it is a touch twitchy though. no toe overlap on my 54 with L mks clips. if you care.

also would not recommend this for a girlfirend fixie. the geo is kinda screwed up (though it might work perfectly for tiny sizes) and it's really harsh on the street. i don't really care, i'm not riding this much farther than the coffee shop. but for longer fixed rides the continuum is better. this is about as uncomfortable as the peloton (though in opposite ways. peloton is smooth but seat angle kills the arms, the fuji has a more usable sta, but way buzzy over the road surface)

yes

Lupin, in what way is the geo "screwed up"?

in general, mostly that all sizes have the same size seat mast (which is a bit crazy since a 61 will probably need more than 73cm of seat mast), head tubes are more or less the same size across the range (the 52 posted above has a head tube that's about 8mm shorter than our friend's 61) mostly the headtube is just wayy too short. kvangundy is pretty flexible, but he's running his with about a cm of spacers and a +6deg stem and he has his back horizontal in the drops. it's hard to imagine that someone 6" taller on a 61 needs the same size head tube.

it's a fun bike, but it definitely benefits the smaller people i think. i probably wouldn't buy past a 56 atmo

Raced one for two seasons. The geometry is fine, with the Fuji-supplied fork. If you have to go aftermarket, just get one with the same rake as the stock bike, and you'll be fine. The chainstay complexity is the bigger problem. Bummer that Nashbar is selling both good and "bad" ones, and people aren't finding out until they get their bikes.

Short head tubes are what seems to be in for track bikes these days, which is why everyone is running stems with some rise to them. The FTP is a fine track racing bike. I personally would imagine it beating the hell out of you on the streets, though. It's stiff AND rigid. The former is good, the latter is bad (but not a big problem on the track).

nope, my friend's 61 and a 54 he bought to flip both have non-crimped chainstays. he also got a 56 to flip but I don't know if that one was crimped. it's really hit or miss.

cc700
06-07-11, 09:21 PM
there's a difference between entrepreneurship and flipping goods. when you pay retail for something(yes, even buying a severely discounted frame on nashbar is still technically a retail sale) you're buying it for personal use, not for resale. this is effectively scalping frames, and calling it capitalism is faulty and overly generous.

well he bought them to hook up people who missed out on the deal.

and even if he was marking them up, there isn't a big margin for markup when citygrounds is selling them with a fork for 350, and i fail to see how this is any different from buying wholesale from a distributor to resell

The head tubes are short to allow people to use aerobars. It's really difficult to get low into aerobars if your headtube is long.

So, it's more useful for a rider/racer to have a short head tube and use a rise stem that extends than have a long head tube and have a snub of a stem that is almost vertically downward.

EDIT:

Also, for aerobars on a tall head tube, one can't just use a downward stem. The stem lengths are much shorter when using aerobars

This is the most wantonly imbecilic string of statements I've heard as of late...RoundAbout bought a lot of frames, it was his right to do so. Nashbar didn't say 1 frame per customer, nor did they say, don't resell these. They said, for every n*$150 amount you send we'll send you n frames.

You missed out, too bad. Why not pm RoundAbout and try to buy a FTP that accepts a greater than 44t ring...Sounds like a good deal, pay the premium of $225-$250 for a frame guaranteed to be fully functional? Hot damn, I'll probably send him one. Enough of your jackassery about the unfairness of the world-- the world is not fair. The world is championed by the utilitarians, the opportunists, and those without their noses so full of their own smugness that they can smell a damn good deal and jump on it.

I'll happily ask the local pimp to hold my bike while I use some self-cleaning snake oil to lube the chains on my two fully functional $150 FTPs.

i was poking fun of myself in that last quoted statement. i could give a **** if i get an ftp from nashbar or not... at least i'll get my money back if i don't get a frame.

+1, don't be so butthurt cc700, there's nothing wrong with buying multiple things for a good price and reselling them, that's how supply and demand work. This is nothing like scalping, because the whole idea behind scalping is that the scalpers have exclusive and early access to the tickets. It's that exclusive and early bit that makes it unfair.

Man, so glad I finally found this thread, courtesy of my teammates.

Yes, it is me. Roundabout. I enjoy long walks on the beach, am very trustworthy with money as I currently manage finances for a $50k+ cycling team, and at 162lb am easily throwable (Throwable by short, half asian track gods with quads the size of my torso, not skinny ironic hipsters). I am a negative nancy, and am invited to every party, since every party needs a party pooper. I did indeed by three FTP framesets. When I submitted my order, I did get a popup from Nashbar saying "Are you sure you want to continue? Buying this many frames is SUCH a jackass move." but I dgaf'd it and continued anyway.
The reason I bought so many frames? I'm a management economics student, and when I see an opportunity to exploit the system my Cournot-cranium takes over, and I lose control of my body. I watched in horror as the economics of my brain took over and placed an order for frames not even in my size!

The next day I woke up, thinking it had all been a dream. I forgot about it until later that week, when three bike boxes showed up in my door! THE HORROR!

Edit 1: lulz my post count

Edit 2:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a73/NotFood/DSC_1081-1.jpg

Now I have 1 complete bike, and 2 frames. It's a good thing none of my friends here ride a 54 or a 56, because then I might be tempted to sell them the fruits of my exploitative labor for less than 1200% profit.

Oh, also thought you'd like to know: 2 months ago I flipped a set of tri wheels I bought off craigslist for $700 profit.

But i fixed it dude, it wasn't comfy for riding around town, so here's the solution:

There is something that you guys should know about the seat mast and the collar.

It is not designed to be adjustable. It is designed to sit RIGHT on the seat mast. There will be no up/down fine tuning. You fine tune it with the hack saw.

I've seen people slide the collar up and try to pinch the two bolts to hold it in the new elevated position, just to have it slip down...because it's not designed to float above the top of the seat mast.

The idea is to cut the seat mast at EXACTLY the right height. But, when you get it cut, have the mechanic shave off 5mm, 1cm, and 2cm sections of the leftover part. Use these as shims to go up if needed.

Edit:
It may be designed to float above the seat mast...but it doesn't do so very well and often slips down...even for normal sized riders. It's the odd bump in the road that will do it.

i think you can have it a little above the top of the cut and be okay, i know there's some leeway on road frames with ISMs. the danger of having it too high above the cut comes from damaging the tubing.

maybe throw some carbon anti slip in the clamp-tube interface to prevent slipping.

Fuji, and most ISP manufactures aren't paying their engineers millions for nothing....To imagine that there is zero adjustibility on a bike would be ridiculous. Change of saddles, flexibility as the season progresses, etc. are all causes of raising or lowering a saddle. The saddle clamp mechanism is designed with this in mind, you've got +/- about 2 cms if you do it right.
