Looking at that stage- I would not be able to climb aboard. Well not with my knees after crawling up those hills. And I do mean crawling.

Somehow I think my pace will be a slightly slower than those guys! I plan to enjoy the views and take a few pics along the way.

It looks like on day one of RtR you will be doing some dirt road riding. The last time I went over Cottonwood Pass it wasn't paved. Hopefully it's been packed down but with all the snow this year it's hard to say how it will be.

It is paved from the Chaffee County side (Buena Vista) to the top, but is dirt on the western side going to Gunnison/Crested Butte. Last time we went down that road, it was a bit challenging. I would guess that there is still a whole lot of snow in the area.

Looks like the Arkansas will have plenty of water this year.

If I were riding this year I'd pack my wide boards and ski down after the ride up...

I'm going to have to try this one year, but I know the altitude would kick my butt.

Mt brother-in-law, Pete Palmer is the newly elected Sheriff of Chaffee County (Buena Vista, Salida, Monarch Pass, Cottonwood Pass). He is 2 years younger than I am.
