Wish you would have kept the original paint on it, though I guess it makes up for it that you kept all the cable routing on it. What do you plan on doing for wheels?

Astonlp
06-08-11, 11:39 AM
ha i was thinking of keeping the original paint but then decided to remove rust and scratches and give it a new refreshed look. Yer i can always tern it back if i decide, The wheels i am a bit stuck on at the moment i was thinking white halo track wheels with maxxis re fuse tires.

you're busting his balls, yet you post a pic of the bike in baby blue?*
so all he has to do to redeem himself would to be to get the now so "hallowed and so esteemed"
Carleton decals.

Hi all

The bike was bought by my dad new when he was in his teens and after minimal use it just sat in the garage for most of its life, then I sore it just hanging there with dust and spiders webs all over it. I cleaned it up, got a new set of tyres and did 50-60 miles a week on it. the bike has not been in used for about a year now and i have decided to turn it into a fixie bike. i have seen this frame and bike on ebay for £60 so if someone want to restore this bike its not hard. i wanted to bring it into the 21s century and make a fun fast bike that i can use for commuting.

the frame and forks where rubbed down smooth and then had 4 coats of primer and 6 coats of montana baby blue paint with 1 coat of varnish. the frame and forks are sweet.

the head set, seat post and cranks where polished and all the bearings cleaned and re greased. this bike is a classic i know that but i will never sell this so it is my project and it will be past down to what was called hipster f**king kid to ride haha

Wow man this is looking hot. I might have gone with white tires for the vanity pics, but white tires don't stay white long. I also think getting a paint marker and lining the lugs with white would be hot...Maybe black though since you have black spokes. Dunno, get both and do a little test. What are you planning on doing to tension the chain?

That doesn't work very well. I tried it on a bike, lining the lugs with a white paint marker. ended up dripping down the head tube, grabbed some solvent and tried to quickly wipe it off, rubbing off the pink paint a bit too, had to try to touch up pink with a sparkle on top. it was a mess. Plus the tip is too fat.
I ended up using some model car paint and a thin paint brush. It was hard to do detail like that, but turned out well.

That looks frickin SICK! You're doing a great job so far. Did it originally have 27" wheels or was it 700c? The clearance with your new 700c's doesn't look like that of a bike with smaller-than-stock wheels.

edit: Just checked the original ad. 700c's stock.

Thanks mate, The originally wheels where 700c and so are the new ones but they are so much thinner :)

Depends on what type of paint marker you can get your hands on. If you've got a steady hand and confidence, a fine brush and model paint is definitely the way to go. However...it can get really messy really quick too.

Does that 105 brake have plastic/resin cartridges?

Astonlp
06-24-11, 01:29 PM
Hi mate, this is some info on the brake. only wanted a light brake as i will not use it that much ;)

the racers' choice, the Shimano 105 5700 Brake Calliper comes in a compact and lightweight design for high performance. The compact Super SLR Dual-Pivot design provides superior brake performance and light action. Enhanced brake proportions give a quicker linear response and increased power. Low profile outer cable stop position improves cable routing for reduced friction. Convex washers on the brake shoes offer toe-in adjustment and easy alignment, and the cartridge brake shoes are easy to replace. The lightweight aluminium construction has an anodised finish to preserve the good looks.

chenghiz
06-24-11, 02:50 PM
I know what 105 brakes are, I was asking if the cartridges that hold the brake shoes are plastic, because they look plastic in your photos and that makes me sad.

TheBikeRollsOn
06-24-11, 03:09 PM
I would doubt they are plastic if it's a 105 brake, but who knows. Anyways, it's really looking pretty nice, you've got a nice building coming together.
