Did that guy ride it for 10 feet and decide after all that he didn't want it?

The person who owns the tree was sad, since his dad that past away planted that tree because they're known for lasting generations. Shame a bunch of thugs did that just for a laugh.
Looks like some of those thugs need to ride bikes. A lot.

Apparently so it seem. That's a lot of work for a short ride.
Give credit to a few of them who were trying to get the chopper to quit. I'm not sure I would have risked tussling with a guy wielding an axe.
If you watch the whole video you can tell they are walking back and forth to "play it cool" I thought they were fighting at first but then I relized the guy with the axe could just chop the other guy and it would be over. I don't think the person who locked there bike up there was very smart putting it in that kinda area.
I thought that to but if you think about it. have you ever meet a good thug who wanted to be a good person. No. Everyone of them was in on it and they should all be taken down to china town. I wouldn't belive for a heartbeart that he was trying to stop him.

Speechless. http://soflamarlins.com/images/newsmilies/boardsmilies/fipp.gif
It looks like the guys that go at the chopper are warning him about people coming. After each run in you can see people or a car pass by. What's scary is that these guys are walking around with an ax. You can't see what lock the bike has but it must've been a cable lock to be able to go around that tree. Makes you wonder why they didn't just use a bolt cutter and save some time/energy. I can't see how they have an ax handy and are not able to find a bolt cutter.
Seems like they also would've noticed the security camera recording them. Usually they're big and white and quite noticeable.

Those guys are pretty industrious, for people who are too lazy buy their own stuff.
according to the news report: "cunning crooks"??? that's not the adjective i'd use.
cutting down a tree to steal a bike... that's gotta invoke some seriously bad karma. at least it's comforting to think that, since they probably won't be brought to justice in this life.
if it was locked to a tree, it was probably a cheap cable lock. a few goods whacks with the axe would have destroyed the lock and scratched the tree. doing it the way they did, they'd still have to deal with the lock. ****ing idiots.
this supports the argument for forced sterilization... and kills the belief that no one would chop down a tree to steal a bike.

That's just ridiculous. Nothing quite like ruining a piece of mother nature for your 10 foot ride.

That is pretty scary. When I used to live in the inner city, I don't recall we ever having an ax in our apartment.
This video now remind me of an older thread here a while back title "What will you do if you see someone stealing your bike?". I think I found my answer and that's pretty much let them have it in this scenerio.
I lose faith in humanity when I see s**t like this.

yeah... unless you've got a riot-control fire-extinguisher full of pepper-spray, or a machine gun, best to keep walking when a group of hoodies is using an axe (or any other medieval weapon) to steal your bike.
even on the internet, most people wouldn't be too macho if they turned a corner and found that. just keep walking and call the police. don't even mention the bike... just a group of guys swinging an axe on a corner in brooklyn. any cop with more than a week of experience would approach the scene with lights and sirens, hoping that they'll leave before he gets close enough to even see them.

So one guy chops the tree down and another rides the bike in a circle? WTH was that all about? The whole thing was pointless.

I think the truly sad/scary thing here isn't even so much the goon squad behaving like this (trash will be trash)...but that they felt confident enough that no one would notice/care that they did it for over 10 minutes without much fear of getting caught.
Also appears the bike was only locked thru the frame, not the wheels as well.

I guess it was the wrong size for him. Remember folks, always check the bike for proper fitting BEFORE you chop down the tree.

Bingo!
Stolen bikes don't go for retail, right? I can't believe a whole team of people got together to steal a bike. Are they each going to make $20 for their efforts? I'm assume the video doesn't show the part where they take it somewhere and turn it into cash.
... and I always thought I was being paranoid insisting on locking my bike to something metal!
The night I got my road bike, a drunk lost control of his car, on the road I had just been riding on. He hit a tree. Totaled the car, killed the driver, and took some bark off the tree. Two of the people I went to high school with died, drunk, when the driver lost control and hit at tree at 70 mph. I hope you don't blame me for this, but it's as sad to know these thugs cut a tree down just to steal a bike, as it is to know somebody's bike got stolen. Even if it's just a sidewalk tree.

Good find. I'd be curious to know if they nab this mofo.
also, i don't know if he did it on purpose or not but it was lucky that he chopped it so the tree fell into the sidewalk and not onto the parked cars. I think this guy has a future on that ax men show....though i'm sure he was winded after that seeing the great shape he was in.

This is getting more weird. According to the article, the bike was not the target but the tree was the target and the bike just happen to be locked to that tree. The tree got cut in disregard the fact that the bike will be easy picking for a bike theif. On top of that, it got lifted off the trunk in the end and rode then left behind. I still see at least two criminal mischief here. What is this world coming to?

How ******** are people, that is sickening.
"Yeah officer, I was jus chill-axin on the stoop wif my homies when cisco showed up wit an axe."
"We wuz like, whuteva, my boyz kinda bugged like dat ya' know".
"He starts choppin down d' tree an we wuz like, yo' sun, gonna getcha dat ride".
"Cisco wuz like", "No my friends. I am making a statement in response to the book "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" that I just finished reading. The metaphorical content as well as socio-economic themes really tugged at the "proverbial heart-strings" so to speak. The issues regarding education, social class, family life, and exploitation as well as the overall "man vs. environment" were succinctly written if not marvelously thought provoking. An enjoyable bedfellow I most heartily recommend."
"So we wuz like, true dat and skidaddaled." :D
LMAO. They just got confused. Somebody said to Cisco, "Mind if I axe you sumtin?" And he thought he said, "Why don't you axe sumtin?"

Trees are basically eternal, compared to human life times. It's sad to see a video of a bunch of people cutting one down for the hell of it.

"ridiculous" is not the word i'd use. maybe nauseating or rage-inducing. i'd like to smack all those d-bags in the back of the head with my bike lock.

Yeah, it would be cool to watch him chainsaw his leg off.

When I saw that I figured that they tree was going to be what people got pissed off about to go after the scum not the theft.
Let me guess, the apartment building is full of section 8 and welfare recipents?

Most likely. And now their politicians will probably argue that taxpayers need to provide them with bikes too.
It says in there, neighborhood men can be seen seen trying to stop the ax wielder from downing the tree. That is a lie it doesnt take a a very smart person to know they were "not" trying to stop a thug with an axe. That is party to a crime. I bet the people who were so called "trying to stop the guy from choping down the tree" called the cops. stupid people. Keep watching the video and it will be come clear as you can see.
