I am wondering about breakfast and hunger and I'd be interested to hear if other people have similar experiences and what they do to deal with it.

I am improving my diet, which includes eating less (%10-%20 less I would say). I usually would have raisin bran for breakfast.
Lately I've experimented with having only protein for breakfast. It's great, I am not too hungry afterwards and can eat and reasonable lunch and feel full.
Today I ate raisin bran again and I was famished three hours afterwards. ( I also rode to work but it's only 5km). I just ate a large salad and an egg sandwich for lunch and I'm still REALLY hungry!

It's the effin bran!!!! If I neglect to eat breakfast (it's only happened a handful of times in my entire life) I don't get hungry. (don't worry I'm not going to stop eating in the morning).

What gives? What do other people eat for breakfast? That may be a funny question but I've eaten cereal my whole life...
Do other people experience a similar thing?

Also, I don't want to do a low-carb diet or anything. I just eat balanced and lots of vegetables and try to be moderate about junk/beer etc...

I've been like this most of my life.

If I eat breakfast early in the morning (before work or school), I'm starving a couple hours later and I eat the rest of the day. It's like eating breakfast that early flips the hunger switch.

But if I don't eat breakfast early in the morning (and I'm rarely hungry then anyway), I'm not nearly so hungry for the rest of the day. I do eat a piece of fruit about 10 am, and I guess you could call that my breakfast.

I'm not at all convinced about this whole "eat breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day" thing.

Regarding eating the raisin bran cereal, the same thing happens to me if I eat a couple pieces of toast with honey before I go out for a weekend ride. I love toast with honey, but about 20 km up the road, I'm into the early stages of bonking. It took me a little while to piece together that the days I had the honey I felt the worst out there ... too much sugar, I'm guessing.

I eat roughly 500-600 calories in the morning for breakfast. Our culture has things backwards. Calorie consumption should be weighted more towards the hours we are most active and those before them.
Anyhow, raisin bran really isn't that good for you and I rarely eat cereal nowadays. Oatmeal is amazing stuff. Not the crap in packets... the real stuff. No matter how much healthy cereal I eat I am hungry an hour later. Not with oatmeal.
However, my favorite breakfast at the moment is a protein shake followed by a slice of toasted homemade oat bread with two scrambled eggs covered in hot sauce and a banana later. *drool*

The worst is German-Chinese cuisine. 30 minutes later and I was hungry for power.
