General Cycling Discussion - miles-per-cheeseburger

While standing in line at a convenience store about an hour ago (decked out in helmet, gloves, and lycra) I heard a woman behind me bragging that her Honda gets 39 miles per gallon. I turned around and said, "Hey that's nothing, I get 42 miles per cheeseburger!" She just looked at me like I was crazy. Everyone else laughed so hard I'm surprised that no one fell down!

That was good, but I'm curious. Have you done substantial testing? Is this a max or an average? What factors influenced this result? Does that include fries or a milkshake? Windy or calm? Shaved legs or hairy? :beer:

My fuel efficiency is way down these days. I am tired and hungry all the time. Today I was cutting my hair and I almost fell asleep with the trimmers in my hand.

Hah! That's nothin'. You should see how many miles I get per home grown passionfruit. And they taste better too. :p

Lemme see, from what I remember

2 Subway meatball subs took me about 60 miles.

6" or foot long, what toppings did you have on them?, white or wheat bread?

I'm with fubar5, i dont beleive i put enough fuel in me, nor do i sleep enough... i'm trying to do better on it, although i just started cycling, i have been running for a while so simular effect from the lack of fuel. I need me a girl that'll cook and make my lunches :D Its amazing how much better my run would be with good sleep and good food intake.

No !! Size seemed to be a problem. Decided to "purdy up" the old PANASONIC and ride it for another year or so . ;)

Years ago, a VW advertisement boasted that a Golf/Rabbit "can run the quarter mile cheaper than you can." If we budget 90 calories per mile / 55 calories per km for walking and, say, one-third to one-half that for cycling, we can arrive at a 'typical" fuel cost per mile for cycling, based on prices and calorie contents of various foodstuffs (huge range!). Of course, "your mileage may differ." Of course, the fallacy of this argument is that the human body needs exercise, anyway, so one might as well address recreational and/or transportation needs at the same time.

On Monday I went riding with a guy who had a Felt road bike. The darn thing weighed a few ounces more than 16 pounds. With Bebop pedals the guy says it weighs under 16. Geez!!! My mountain bike weighs twice as much as his road bike.

This reply is related to greasy foods...anyone ever fart into a cup and them put the cup in front of someone's face? Hey, who said human fart gas wasn't portable? :):D

I just want to know, was that an Ultimate Cheeseburger, Quarter pounder, whopper, or what. This has me wondering now just how many colories are in the 5dollar big enough for 2 meals burrito I buy at the Taquaria i frequent.

"Cycling Under the Influence of Endorphins (and standing in line, too!)" Cyclists blurt out the strangest things... :D

The really scary part is what goes through people's minds later.
"Let's see, 42 miles per cheeseburger...that's 42,000 miles I need to ride!!!!"

You may find this strange, but the honest truth is that the thought had never entered my head. Is this something you do on a regular basis? And more to the point ... why?
