Classic & Vintage - Any interest in Stronglight 93 triplizer rings? I'm having some made

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have finally found a custom chainring outfit (Warhawk Industries in North Carolina) that will make 122/74 BCD triplizer rings to fit a Stronglight 93. The attached CAD drawing is from them, based on a sketch I had supplied. I think they look kind of cool.

They'll be sending me a price quote soon. I had said I would be interested in maybe a half-dozen of them originally (assuming that a prototype model is found to be satisfactory) with the goal of keeping the price to a reasonable level--less than $100 each, I hope.

Would anyone else be interested in this? I'll report back when I have a price and then again when I have actually seen and tried a prototype--I'll post photos then, too. By the way, I'm not planning to resell these for a profit--just trying to keep unit costs low for an initial batch. My hope is that once the initial setup cost has been absorbed, anyone who wants one in the future can order it directly from them at an affordable price. Initially, I'm having them develop a 42-tooth ring, which would be good for a standard full-size 52-42-28 triple or thereabouts, or for a 46-42-24 half-step triple for old guys in hilly country (c'est moi) who are willing to use the right 5-speed freewheel to make the half-steps come out evenly.

The drawing looks good, but I'm not going to get my hopes up too much until I've seen the finished product. I already have one $50 failure behind me--had a guy in Virginia who supposedly knew what he was doing make me a prototype that was a flat failure. The two sets of bolt holes were correct, but he didn't make the necessary cutouts for the chainring to fit onto the crankset spider, plus the teeth were WAY too thick--too thick to fit onto a 1/8" chain, let alone a 3/32. He hasn't shown any interest in taking it back and fixing it, either. Chalking that attempt up to experience.

Anyway, if you think you might want one of these (again, assuming they're found to work well) get in touch with me at my regular email address, jonwvara@yahoo.com. I'll save those responses and get back to people if and when it's time to actually place orders.

I think that is very cool. I am not interested in one for those cranks but would like the name of the site that still has a few triplizers for 144 Campi cranks.

I got my last one from:

Very cool.
While I don't think I need one, I am certainly interested if they are semi affordable and have good manufacturing quality to them.
I imagine as soon as it is drafted they just convert it to a CAM file and CNC it in one pass, maybe two. Cost is definitely going to be absorbed by the first run, after that its the material stock and some clicks of a mouse.

I always did third-step triples, such as 49-46-43, w/ extra-long stack bolts. When I worked at a Nishiki dealership, I changed one customer's stock 54-47 / 14-18-22-28-34 gearing to 54-50-47 w/ the same freewheel, and he thought it was great on a long trip.

Very resourceful, if you have no need of low gears. My need for lower gearing that one can get with a 38-tooth chainring (right, or the theoretical 37-tooth ring that no one has ever actually seen) is what led me to this whole foolish project in the first place.

Jon, count me in for at least one. Warhawk does have a website. (http://www.warhawkindustries.com/index.php?route=common/home)

First, Chas (verktyg) has a couple 37t rings. Obviously, he's not parting with any, but he has the proof that they do exist.

It would be MY need for low gears to want a 38/37t AND a granny, say 26t.

Why go back up to a 42? I'm currently running a 50/38 on my Hetchins, and I'd love to have a granny-ized 93.

Any thoughts of going lower for that middle ring?

If so, I'd be in for one.

Not sure, but changing the number of teeth is probably pretty easy once the CAM program is operational. I'll ask--maybe they'll be willing to make a batch of mixed sizes.
I'm going with 42 because I plan to use one ring as a half-step setup with my touring bike--a 46-42-24 in front, 14-17-21-26-32 in back. I'm also going to use a crossover setup on my Gitane with 47-42-24 in front and a 7-speed 13-15-17-19-21-24-28 freewheel. Both seem to chart out pretty well.

I may be interested. You could pencil me in, but make sure you have an eraser around just in case.

This is very interesting. I think the only way I could resist buying one is if it looked very odd or was unsafe. Has there been any progress?

Waiting, waiting.... A couple of weeks back, my contact there told me told me he'd get a final dimensioned drawing to me and a price quote, but I haven't seen it yet. I will check in again when I have that information, then again after I've actually tried out a prototype.

I'd be interested if priced right. What is the normal bolt circle?

The outer bolt circle is 122 bcd, the second set of holes is to allow you to mount a standard 74 bcd granny ring on the triplizer ring with some spacers, probably 3mm.

I just ran across your thread about triplizers for Stronglight 93 cranks. Has there been any progress when if ever will they be available?
