Fifty Plus (50+) - 25.63 miles today..my personal best so far.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok..I know to a lot of you guys that's nothing, but I've just gotten into riding a lil more seriously. Kids are older, don't need me as much. So, I've got more time to do what I wanna do. I'm 49 next month, so I rounded up for this forum.
Rode with a buddy this am who is a major rider..he rides 26 ever am, then 10 to work and 10 back. LOL. EVERY day.
It was big fun and I did pretty well for my first adventure into road riding. I've been riding some, but not that far. I kept up fine, hills hurt a lil. :) Good thing I have a hot tub to come home to. Gotta stretch more next time.
Only stopped once to adjust my seat cause my quads were cramping..it was too low.
On my Trek Hybrid for now. I love that bike. If things progress, I might get a road bike. But for now, I'm sticking with it. May get some clips, I have the clipless and it's ok.
Anyway..I'm proud.
And yes I plan on riding in the am...maybe not that far, but still out peddling and sweating and that's what I enjoy.

Rounded up 49 to 50+, you will fit in nicely. Embellishers R us. Our moto - round up liberally and let no one think the lesser of you for it.

25.63, well that looks like 30 miles to me, 30 can even round to 50, 50 is close enough to a metric century - century, well maybe we can call that ride your first century. Do you understand the rules now? Oh, and I bet you did that century in maybe 2 hours. Wow - your first two hour century. I think you now know how things work around here.

I bet you could have gone 25.67 if you had been more determined. ;)

Congrats on the ride. Get a few hill climber rides in...doesnt have to be many miles, just do some reps on the ascents....and watch that 30miler roll right under you next distance day you have.

Feels good, doesnt it?

Great! Keep them pedals moving and you'll be telling us about riding your age at your next birthday.

And I'd point out that you've also now met your one post per year of BF membership quota.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. As I posted in another thread, I was out this am but only for 14 miles....and my first fall. :)
All good tho. Lessons learned.

14 miles is never a "only". Each mile is a milestone and you should be proud of all accomplishments.

grats. not long ago 2 miles was my "best day". Now it's 70. For cyclists that are working at it, each day of riding brings more ability for longer, faster, less butt-killing riding. The other day I realized my butt didn't hurt after 30 mi. That was nice. Keep it up.

A personal best is a personal best - yours not mine. If it's the best so far it's WORTHY OF CONGRATULATIONS! Keep at it. Go to a good bike shop - one with a friendly feel, rather than an "elite" feel - show them your bike, ask for advice. They'll probably help you adjust the fit and will undoubtedly make some suggestions for parts upgrades. Take some time, ride, consider the upgrades.

Talk to experienced riders about their bikes - especially the older riders (like us on this forum.) I happen to think road bikes are the most fun, and I have two mountain bikes (26" and 29") and a touring bike in addition to my roadie. But there are different versions of road bikes. Someone in the second half-century of life might want something a little more upright, a little more comfortable, perhaps with a triple, than someone in their 20's.

Take your time and keep riding in the meantime. Enjoy.

That's my 2 cents.

Congratulations again!

Way to go bikentn. I just took a neighbor out for his first 25 miler and he loved it. On the way back he said, he better start looking for another bike. I had to laugh, it reminded me, of me.
