General Cycling Discussion - What do you think about a new forum category?

Hi all,

What would it take to have a new forum category: product reviews?

I think this would be very helpful for people who are trying to make decisions about products.
An alternative would be to have a product review tree:

forum: product review_complete bikes
forum: product review_clothing
forum: product review_computers
forum: product review_lights
forum: product review_tires and tubes
forum: product review_bike racks
forum: product review_miscellaneous

We wouldn't need components as there is already a mechanial thread.


What do you think? If this forum category/categories existed, would you read and post on them?

I think the reviews are a good idea. I'm not sure we need a whole forum for racks, though; maybe panniers and racks?

Whatever the details, it seems like a good idea to me. I'm not the one doing the work on the site, though!

Yeah, but site is incomplete.

I wanted to review:
Cateye LD1000
ViewPoint Evo Dual lights
and adjust review of Giant OCR touring.

That does not seem to be possible. mbr seems to have trouble keeping up with new products. So I figured a new forum category would allow us all to enter a review of the product we wanted to highlight that was either very good or needed a bit of redesign to fit our needs better.

oh, "racks" needs more details. I was not thinking of "rear racks" but all kinds of vehicle bike racks, top load, rear load, hitch load.

Plus you can ask for clarification in the forums, whereas reviews on those sites are static. Also, you get people who have a tiny problem and give one star saying "Crappy product, don't buy" or some such thing.

I'm not sure how much trouble it is to create new forums, but it would be interesting to see it on at least an experimental basis. It would definitely rely on tit for tat from forums members, but I think it could work.
