Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just last week, after I had gotten the end result of my trip down the steps diagnosed and started my treatment, I felt like I could begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel but the tunnel was long. Today, as I complete my last round of meds, I am amazed at the progress I've made in the past two days. I actually think I might be able to get back on it and go out for an easy, little 10 mile loop. I am soooooooo happy. I can ride again. For the past couple of weeks I have just looked at my bike hanging on its hooks and cried. Just in time, too... I've lost about two or three pounds and I fear it is not fat that I'm losing. Well, I just need to go start building it up again.

Other than the hump I need to climb to get back home, I think I'll just skip the hills for a bit
I will be VERY happy with a little out-n-back.

I can go in 4 directions from home. West will give traffic for 10 miles and then it can be flat or tortuous. South is a Flat Pie ride to the coast OR it it can involve 2,500ft of climbing in 20 miles on a 40 miler. East is flat for 30 miles out and 30 miles back. BUT North is a lot of up and down. Some at 8% some at 20% (But not many and not for long) Less traffic but no cafes either so not done very often. Ride today was North and not bad but the "Awkward" hill comes last. 15% for 1/4 mile that then goes to 10% for 1/2 mile. The awkward bit is that 15% as it comes very suddenly after a long downhill. Only a 12 miler today as it was raining but 1500 ft of climbing.

My problem is that I have been doing the flat rides for too long and need to get the hills in. The 12 miles today were at MY pace and I enjoyed them. I'll have top keep going North for a long time to get fit enough for those long steep slopes but if the enjoyment comes with it- then I'll keep trying them.
