There is a wierd noise (rubbing/ clicking) near the rear hub. the bike is brand new (2002 giant iguana). anyone have any ideas of what it could be or what i could to to find out...

Check to make sure the tire is not rubbing against the frame; or a cable wire could be rubbing against the knobbies. It could also be the ratchets inside the hub body are clicking, which should be no cause for concern.

But if it's brand new take it back to the dealer and have him check it out. That's one of the reasons for buying from an LBS in the first place.
