Winter Cycling - projects for the winter

i find the winter is a good time to do bicycle related projects. last year i stripped down an old beater, cleaned everything, replaced a few things, and put it all back together again.

this winter i'm going to take apart my track bike and attempt to repaint the frame. also, on the list is a near-complete overhaul of my two road bikes, and hopefully work on a bike for a friend of mine so i can get her riding in the spring.

what do you guys have planned for this winter, project-wise?

Finally strip my Ross down, get rid of all the braze-ons, repaint and build back up into a beater that I can take off road without worrying about.

Build my Bianchi back up prettier than before - this will have to wait until almost spring, though, as I might be tempted to take her out in the snow.

Get a truing stand and teach myself to build a wheel (may or may not happen).

good idea. i really should learn how to do this myself as well. i've never tried it before.

I told myself I was going to do it last year... Never happened. It's one of those perpetual on the winter to-do list type of things. I think the days stuck inside with a foot of snow would go a lot faster sitting there and working on a wheel for hours, just knowing how good it's going to ride come spring...

I just bought a NOS HomeGrown frame. So, my fork and the frame are going to AirGlow to get painted metallic red with the 60s-early70s style Schwinn decals and headbadge. My first two bikes were a Sting-Ray and later a Varsity so the decals and headbadge will be like they had. This will be sort of a newer bike with a nostalgic feel kind of thing.

This winter I am thinking about building a front fairing. Any advice out there?

Learn to weld. Convert an old 60s Moulton into a recumbent. Crash a lot!

I plan to ride more trails in deeper snow this winter :) ..Steeker

Moulton recumbent is easy conversion. The biggest job is the seat.

Also very easy to ride. Mine has taught many people to ride a recumbent.
