Sorry people, I hit enter too quick! I found this on Craigslist, but I have no idea if it is the real deal. Can anyone help? The component set looks great, but I still think the price is high.

I'm not sure what to make of the "Pro Elite" claim. It seems to me that there are too many modifiers there. It looks like maybe a 2000 Conquest Pro, but the components are newer than that. The rear derailleur looks like 6600 series Ultegra, and the shifters look like 5600 series 105, which are nice. The fork is definitely aluminum, which is a minus. The crank looks like 50-34 FSA Omega, which is OK. I can't tell what the brakes or wheels are.

Overall, it looks OK. Like you said, nice components. The asking price seems about average for a CL asking price, but those are almost always too high. I'd maybe offer $550 and see where it goes from there.

The Mavic Open Pro rims on Ultegra hubs would cost $330 new on eBay or at Performance. Used value for the wheelset only would be $150.

I would offer $500 and pay $550 if it was damage-free and 90% of showroom condition. That alloy fork would get replaced ASAP.

Thank you so much for the input...This will help my decision process immensely. Cyclocross bikes look like a good mix between roadie and hybrid. I only started my search for a cyclo bike after a conversation at the LBS regarding my search for a commuter bike that offers aggressive speed and looks. The owner told me a cyclo might offer that mix for me.

I'm also looking at a similar bike: http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/bik/2455249346.html. Any comments on this one?

From what I can gather on BikePedia, this would be a 2003 frame, but none of the components match, so I'm guessing it's been built up from scratch.

I'm thinking more like $350-400. The wheels wouldn't work too well for me for cross (210#) I don't think.

Yeah, 2003..aluminum fork..older (6500) Ultegra components. The wheels might surprise you. I weigh 200 pounds and have been riding Mavic Aksiums with 20 front/24 rear spokes without a problem on the road. I do plan to put my 32-spoke Open Pros back on for CX racing, but I here a lot of Clydes race on low-spoke count wheels. I don't know anything about the Bontragers. I think $400 sounds about right, but that's a big drop from asking price. I guess it's worth a try.
